Like the idea of being able to keep pulling the battery in and out. I've a funny feeling though that there's more chance of ending up with slack connections and a battery dropping out from repeated pressure on the hardware.

Think I'll just wait til the battery dies - hopefully by then 6 cell replacements will be readily available and not ridiculously priced!

"The question is often asked, should the laptop be disconnected from the main when not in use? Under normal circumstances, it should not matter with lithium-ion. Once the battery is fully charged, no further charge is applied. However, there is always the concern is malfunction of the AC adapter, the laptop or the battery."

I've always left the battery in on my old laptop, but now I've been taking it out for my One once it's fully charged. Now I'm starting to wonder again if this is even doing anything.

wow.. I umm plug it in when using it in my office (right now I am watching a video on it while typing on my desktop .... technically I could be watching the video on my 2nd monitor but where would the AAO love be in that :D )

then when I get tired of my office I unplug it and take it to the living room / rec room ...wherever I decide to go instead.

at night I shut down teh AAO and unplug it from the power supply.

since I want it to be charged and it is not plugged in for extended times I am not going to worry about removing the battery 7million times (wouldn't constantly installing / removing the battery cause more problems by possibly wearing out the release mechanism ?????) meh.. I'm just not going to worry about it.. once some (reputable) sellers have some AAO batts on ebay I'm going to grab me a spare /or a 6cell

if the battery croaks I will buy a new one :D

or who knows maybe an ASPIRETWO :D

I have sweated over batteries for years and years in all types of equipment -- lead acid, NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion. Done everything I could to treat them right, followed all the recommendations, taken the best care of them. Some of them still fail unexpectedly and some of them last longer than they should.

I've decided that life is too short to spend too much time worrying about these things. I own the battery, it doesn't own me.

    :D

I want my One fully charged and ready to go when I decide head out, so I typically use it on the charger when at home and leave the battery in place. I agree with the concerns that too many removal and installation cycles may be harder on both the battery and the computer than just leaving it installed.

I tried taking the battery out and leaving the AC adapter connected method, but after closing the display and then opening it back up hours later, I found that all of my work was lost and Windows had to be restarted. After that happening a couple of times, I went back to the battery + AC adapter combo.

    I'm with atarione.

I'll do what I like with it, and if I damage the battery, I'll buy a new one. Although the advice provided here is no doubt sound, I don't think the amount of faffing about is worth the small improvement in battery life.

The key appeal of a laptot to me is just being able to grab it and use it or stuff it in a bag in a few seconds. I don't want to have to put it back together again.

Apart from anything, I have a young daughter who might just decide that the battery is a lavatory brush (with the obvious consequences) whereas she knows what a computer is and won't damage it.
