Those dollar store batteries are a waste of money, materials , and electricity. Garbage in, garbage out.

Who, and exactly what part of what they said are you trying to respond to? A quote does wonders. :p

As someone who plays games all the time, I prefer the mouse over the touch pad. It's also hard to do anything work-related on my computer without a mouse since the arrow keys on my laptop are broken and the touch pad isn't as accurate or fast.

I frequently tend to use my laptop in bed, and that's when I like using the touch pad. My laptop has a lot of gestures I can use to make using the touch pad a great experience. I use a mouse however when I'm playing games or writing code.

I don't normally like to use my computer on top of my bed but my touchpad also has a whole lot of functions. Even then I still prefer using my regular mouse.

Macs appear to be the only laptops that have a good use for the touchpad because of all the multi touch gestures and of course, Mission Control, it is really easy to multi task with that, but other than that, as soon as I need to do serious work I go back to a regular mouse. I actually been using a combination of both and a lot of people do it too, even for iMacs, they have a small touch surface for the gestures and mission control and a regular mouse (a real mouse not that horrible Apple mouse) for everything else. A touch surface is much more useful than a touchscreen on a laptop, those are a waste of time.

I do use it a lot, but I usually have a wireless mouse on hand.

But a few years before I used my touchpad as a drawing pad a lot. It wasn't really precise but enjoyed the freedom it gave me while making silly jokes that I shared with friends.

Yes - I do use the touchpad albeit not as much as I use my mouse. The touchpad comes handy when you're in bed doing some light web-browsing, as using a mouse without a hard surface is really hard and clunky. Nevertheless, the mouse is useful for when I need precision like when I'm gaming or editing videos, I need to be fast and precise so the touchpad isn't the best option.

I use my touch pad for everything except photo editing. I hated it at first but, klutz that I am, I lost my mouse one week after I got it and never wanted to spend again for a while. Now I am used to it and it doesn't bother me as much, specially with smart gestures. It just makes up for not having a mouse.

I get my best battery life from the sunbeams at the dollar store near me. Zero question. I have bought $4 packs of duracell that literally last less than 2 days longer.

I use to be a wireless mouse fanatic, but no matter what brand I buy, they only last six months before they stop working altogether. I keep them clean and I am careful with them, but it seems as though the wireless USB device is what malfunctions. Now, I use touch pad almost exclusively. I'm not as fast with it as I am with the mouse, but such is life. I hate putting out $30-$50 dollars every six months for a new mouse.

I mainly use a mouse since it's most comfortable for me to use that way and so much easier, but when work outside the comfort of my home, like in a coffee shop or something, i settle for the touch pad.

Most Windows PC have a crappy TouchPad which has made using them very Uncomfortable. Until a few weeks ago Macbooks were the only ones to have had a good TouchPad. This has made it very impractical to use the TouchPad and I never use it. When I forget to bring a Touchpad, I find myself struggling to use it. But with my new HP x360 I think it is about to change. I am using the touchpad on this a lot more often than Desirable. I now strongly believe that God Touchpads are great Mouse alternatives. Good Luck.

I have to still find a comfortable touchpad, it has a lot to do with it's placing. It's just something we have to live with but if they could find a way of placing it on the side of the laptop it would be much more comfortable.

I usually use the touch pad when I'm doing office work as I find it quite efficient, especially because of all the useful gestures which maximize efficiency. However, when I switch to a more intense program which involves a lot of mouse gestures, then I use a mouse.

I don't think I could get used to it. The ones I've used were way too clunky. It's just slow to work with. I'd always use a mouse, unless I don't have the space for it. My friend on the other hand loves using the touch pad on his Macbook. I've tried it and I'm still not convinced.

Unless I'm gaming, I prefer the touchpad. Usually if I'm working on something or just browsing online I sit on the couch with the laptop in my lap, no good place to set and use a mouse anyway. I also find it pretty easy to use and I don't have to move my hands so far to go from moving the cursor to typing. I also like the gestures to zoom in, scroll, switch screens, etc.

    Yes, I do.
While I think a full mouse is still superior for many tasks, a touch pad is sufficient enough for some basic tasks. At this moment, I am not even using a mouse on my Surface Pro 4 when replying to this thread... although I do have a bluetooth Arch Mouse from Microsoft.

For my previous laptop, a Dell Vostro 1500, I had a $59.99 Logitech G500 mouse. Since during the final years, the laptop hardly leave my desk, it made sense for me to use the best mouse available.

If you just do some web browsing, and Office software, then a touch pad is good enough once you get used to it. If you use more complex programs which requires a lot of clicks instead of typing, then a mouse will save you some time and trouble. For gaming, a mouse is a must.

I hardly use the touch pad because like @spence88, I tend to use both hands to control it and that really slows me down. I use a wireless mouse most of the time and only get to use the touch pad when the mouse is no longer working. When that happens, I usually rush to the store to buy a new one. It's good to have them on a laptop though for those 'emergency' cases.
