The MS upgrade advisor informed that my 1410 would run w7 but did not seem to make clear that the 1410 could run w7 as 74 bit.

I thought you had to run a Core 2 Duo or the newer i5/i7 processors to get 64 bit. I've a laptop with Core Duo which is stuck on 32 bit so I would make a wide assumption and say a Core Solo is 32 bit only as well.

Intel has made other 64-bit processors. My desktop has a 64-bit single core Celeron D, which supports 64-bit operating systems. (Of course, my motherboard caps at 2GB RAM, so there's really no use in installing a 64-bit version...)

The bottom line is, as long as the CPU on your machine can handle 64-bit code, you should be able to install Win7 64-bit. Windows Advisor should tell you if you can't run Win7 64-bit. If i did not, then your machine probably can. Maybe you can post the screen shot of the results of the scan so we can analyze further.

Like in Bloodstar's case, 64-bit does work. It was simply a matter of the performance why Bloodstar chose to stick with 32-bit.

But not all Celeron D are 64 bit either.
