    runing beta-1.

i *think* it does... i was running tiny vista v2 and i'm pretty sure it ran a little cooler. though it could be because temperatures are warming up (it's summer here).

anyone else experience this or can comment on whether they think windows-7 beta-1 runs hotter?

also, i think this is why i have had two BSODs so far. i am running fan control software and it doesn't seem to work as well.

I came here specifically to check if anyone else had noticed this, so I'm glad I'm not alone.
The first time I ever felt discomfortable with the AA1 on my lap was after running Windows 7, so I'm pretty sure something's not right.

    could it be the drivers?

i know that i could not get skype to run properly until i installed the vista audio drivers.

so maybe we need to update the chipset drivers or something.

anyone found a solution to the windows-7 heat problem?

i tried turning off all of the fancy features... you would not believe how it makes windows look. anyone remember w2k?

it does not affect the heat. it is still too hot. i may have to go back to vista.

If you go to the power management details, you can change the Settings>Advanced Power Settings>Processor Power Management>System Cooling Policy and you can change it to either Active or Passive. Don't know if this actually changes anything, though.

Mines was running pretty warm before I installed the fan control and ran all my updates. Now I have my settings turn the fan on at 50 deg C and off at 43 deg C and it runs about the same as it did under windows xp.

anyone install the graphics driver from the intel website?

i did and it seems to make a big difference in reducing heat.

regarding windows-7 running hotter, my comparisons were based on vista.
winXP always ran pretty hot. vista was the coolest.

Is Vista indeed cooler than XP? I find the A1 to be a bit too warm running XP but did not know the operating system has such an affect. Is it much cooler under Vista? Enough that it alone is reason to install Vista?

    Thanks.

my windows-7 now hovers around 51C with a1ctl

my performance index score for gaming 3d graphics went from 2.0 to 2.9 with the new driver, which means win-7 installed a crappy driver to begin with. this made all the difference when it came to heat.

why not try a dual boot system and see if you like vista or win-7 over XP?
