I just purchased an Acer Netbook model D255E-13639. I am trying to downlaod files from from my desktop to the Acer via a USB connection. But the two computers don't want to communicate----any ideas. The desktop is using XP and the Acer Windows 7 Starter. Thanks much for any help.

I stick a flash drive in the USB port, put the files on it and then stick the flash drive into the other 'puter.

Are you using a bridge cable? I think a plain USB cable could fry something. You might have better luck with a crossover Ethernet cable. Or your router if you have one.

Agree with the others: USB cable is not the way. Any of USB stick, ethernet crossover cable, or more permanently usefully, setting up a wi-fi LAN connection through a router, would work.

Be aware that an ethernet "crossover cable" is a special type - not the standard ethernet cable used from a router, etc. They used to be used commonly for quick and dirty geekal intercourse, but not so much since USB sticks and wi-fi.
