I have downloaded Skype and want to install it, but it demands my root password. When I type in my root password, it gives me the same dialogue box again, as though I haven't typed anything, and repeats this a couple of times before offering to change my password. I know my password is right, however, as I managed to change it! Any help much appreciated...

I don't know what password you managed to change, but with Linpus, the password assigned to "user" is the password you want to use. Linpus uses sudo, which elevates the user to superuser status giving one root authority.

    Cheers.
