    Hi,

I have just treated my wife to the Acer Aspire One, which she loves. How ever I need to install the two Brother dpkg packages to get it to print. I keep following the instructions from Brother
    http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/instruction_prn1a.html
but all I keep getting is:
    Code:
    sudo: dpkg: command not found
or if I don't use "sudo"
    Code:
    bash: dpkg: command not found
The two .deb files are in "My Downloads"

I'm new to Linux so any help would be great.

    Cheers,

    Scott

There are many linux-flavors. Some of them are based on Debian and use .deb's and dpkg for packagemanagement.
Linpus is not in that family. You should look for .rpm's, download them, click on them and see what happens.

An untested suggestion as I do not have that printer.

    sudo yum update fedora-release

    When that's done
    sudo yum update cups

When that's done, you can try using the Printer Setup thing provided with Linpus. It might have drivers for that machine.

One problem, especially these days, is that Ubuntu is soooo popular that everyone will simply post instructions for something for Ubuntu, forgetting that other people use SuSE, Fedora, etc. :) I suspect Brother did that. (Ubuntu was originally based on Debian and still uses much of it, including the dpkg command.)

    scottro,

Thanks for this, it worked like a charm.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I had already installed the LPR & Cupswrapper .rpm drivers. However when trying to configure the printer via localhost:633/printers the interface looked wrong and I could not pick LPD/LPR option that Brother was saying should be there.

Then after trying your suggestion the interface looked correct and I was indeed able to pick the LPD/LPR option for my DCP-770CW :D
