    Hello All,

I spent some time with my AAO this week trying to find the best distro and easiest install.

After testing Ubuntu Hardy Heron, Intrepid Ibex, and the Netbook Remix I moved to Mandriva 2009 KDE and finally to Mandriva 2009 Gnome. The steps I followed were a bit of a conglomeration of guides found online. So, I thought someone in a similar situation might find this little guide helpful. Thanks to L'Ordikc and all others who have developed these tools. It made a novice like me enjoy installing Mandriva.

Mandriva 2009 Gnome USB Installation for Acer Aspire One 110L, 8 GB SSD, 1.5GB RAM
    Required:

    Steps:
    1) Format your USB stick on your Windows XP machine and name it MANDRIVAONE
    2) Using UNetbootin on Windows XP install the Mandriva 2009 Gnome ISO on your USB stick in the root directory (G:\ for me)
    - Do Not Restart, Just Exit Upon Completion
    3) Unpack the kit provided by L'Ordikc and extract it to the root directory on your USB stick
    - Make Sure to Overwrite all files when prompted
    4) Remove your USB stick from the Windows machine and plug it into the powered off AAO
    5) Boot up and hit F12 at the BIOS screen
    6) Select the 2nd Boot Option which should be to boot from the USB key
    7) Follow Install Prompts and Restart when prompted!

One other brief note: I partitioned my hard drive with a small JFS partition for /boot, a 500 MB linux swap, and a large main JFS partition at /. So far the JFS system is running circles around my previous Ext3 set up.

    Good luck to all!

IT does not work for me. When booting from USB, appears the Mandriva screen and after a while, a text reads:
Cannot run '/etc/init.de/rcs' : No such of file or directry

    Check this one out.

    http://www.eeextra.com/linux/installing-mandriva-2009-on-the-eee-box.html

It is written for the eepc but it is working perfectly fine on my AAO. Naturally there are some things I still need to work out with Skype, but everything else is working fine right after install, wireless also.

1 thing, remember to put an SD card (or whichever you prefer) in both card slots before you start the install and leave them in during the install process. From what I found out, as long as you follow that, the card readers have no problem after. If not, its a beeech tgrying to get them to work.

This will work with one added step.

In step 3, when you extract the file to your usb drive, it actually extracts another zipped file. open the second zipped file and extract that one to the usb drive, overwriting files. This worked for me. I hope it helps.

Are you sure you did this:

    Code:
    3) Unpack the kit provided by L'Ordikc and extract it to the root directory on your USB stick
    - Make Sure to Overwrite all files when prompted
This error communicate you getting if this step is done wrong or is not done at all...
