Thanks Rich. I'd seen that one, but the price was so close to the 9 cell ones that I figured it wasn't worth the cost. Now it makes much more sense. I do like the size of this battery, but a bit more "juice" would be great.

Did you run tests on this unit? What's the maximum capacity on it? Also, the seller says that it'll last almost 8 and a half hours. What's your experience?

Haven't used it that much but battery mon showed 5257 with only one charge. I understand it goes up from there a bit.
I always use WiFi and early indications are to expect around 6 or more hours with my usage pattern.
Basically all of my use is around browsing and E_Mail so WiFi and HD are always in play to some degree.

I'm sold on this one. Thanks!

Just sent Novapcs an email requesting a return and credit. I wonder if I'll get a shipping credit? Anyway, I hope it works out alright.

I bought a 6-cell battery from Laptoppower and after 2 weeks the battery lost much of its stated capacity, although it seems that if I let the charge get below 0% it still lasts for 90 minutes or more, totaling 4.5 hourswith wifi and bright screen.

Here is the output of a command in terminal: Note the "last full capacity"

    [user@localhost ~]$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/infopresent: yes
    design capacity: 4400 mAh
    last full capacity: 2735 mAh
    battery technology: rechargeable
    design voltage: 11100 mV
    design capacity warning: 300 mAh
    design capacity low: 109 mAh
    capacity granularity 1: 32 mAh
    capacity granularity 2: 32 mAh
    model number: UM08B74
    serial number: 013A
    battery type: LION
    OEM info: SIMPLO

Keep us posted on how that goes. Seems like Mambate is everywhere in the US, under different aliases  It would be good to know if Mambate/NOVAPCS/BrainyDeal maintains a respectable customer service practice after a customer has been given time to test their product.

Novapcs got back to me last night. Their response is pretty crazy:

So, I've been very pleased with the seller so far. They are very responsive and fast to be sure, but this "5200 is actually 4400" or "7200 is actually 6600" is ridiculous. If that's the case, they should say so right on the page.

I'm gonna send the battery back. Kind of a hassle, but... hopefully the higher mah at the netbook-central ebay store is also indicative of a higher quality cell / product over all.

What a crock of sh*t. If you buy a genuine Acer 5200mAH battery you get 5200mAH, not 4400mAH.

The only reason that 5200 ends up as 4400 and 7200 ends up as 6600 is because 2600mAH or 2400mAH cells have been substituted with cheaper 2200mAH cells.

I guess I got lucky and got what I ordered.

I think we're dealing with an issue that is not unique to batteries. Some manufacturers in some countries do not make and label their products consistantly. Perhaps they don't test them thoroughly either. Importers probably do not have the budget to test every item either. The only way to resolve the problem is for importers to refuse to accept improperly labeld merchandise and for users to refuse to buy them.

AFAIK, unless I missed it, you haven't shown us yet that you DID get lucky and get what you ordered. You've got long battery life that satisfies you, but have you installed NoteBook Battery Info or the like and actually found out what the mAh of your supposed 7200 battery is?

So, what do you think guys? What are the chances I can get my return shipping costs covered? Do you think eBay or Paypal would back me up? I mailed it back to Novapcs today and also ordered the REAL 5200mah battery from netbook-central. Now I'm just playing the waiting game.

I am in a similar position myself after returning a "5200mAH" battery to Hong Kong.

A refund obtained via PayPal dispute will allow no more than the original payment to be refunded. However you could use your ability to retract negative feedback as a bargaining tool, providing that the original seller is at all concerned about negative feedback.

It's worth a try I suppose. I guess this is why I started this thread.. LMAO so some of us impatient types can be guinea pigs and hopefully help out or warn future buyers from putting their trust and money on certain eBay sellers that offers "too good to be true" prices.

    Good luck!

So do we have a reliable source off upgraded batteries for the acer spire one ?? very keen to buy a bigger battery for the acer as in all honesty I think battery life is the main downside to the acer and would be really keen to replace the battery for a 6-7 hours version.

any reliable mail order souces then ??

OK - fair enough. But isn't battery life the whole point? I'll download a utility and post the results soon.

Battery life is part of the point, but paying a higher cost for a 7200 mAh battery when you only get the life of a 6600 mAh battery (or in my case, 5200 vs. 4400) is maybe even more the point.

The fact that these companies (or, possibly just ONE company - Mambate - using several different names) is misrepresenting their product in order to get business is also a HUGE deal to me. If they're selling 4400's like everyone else and at the same price, but advertising it as a 5200 so you'll order from them expecting more battery life, that's an illegal deceptive practice.

Ok, now I'm upset. It's only been a little over a week and I've charged/discharged the battery a total of 5 max and now it won't charge at all. I just sent Mambate an email. Hopefully they get back to me. It's a good thing I didn't give them a positive feedback yet, as for now that is my only bargaining chip without having to resort to involving eBay and PayPal.

Here is the letter I sent:

The 3-cell battery that came with my AAO is labeled as 2200mAh.
Notebook Battery Info says its Designed Capacity is 24420mWH and its Full Charge Capacity is 20957mWh with 15% Wear Level

The 9-cell battery I bought from Novapcs is labeled as 7200mAh.
Notebook Battery Info says its Designed Capacity is 79920mWH and its Full Charge Capacity is 63725mWh with 21% Wear Level

The wear level of the 9-cell concerns me a little as I have not had it all that long.

    welcome to the club.

    cheap chinese knock-offs club.

The "wear level" doesn't seem to affect actual run-times, only a "state of health" gauge

Who knows how they check the health, probably some internal test that has no real bearing on actual life of the cells...

Mine is about 3 months old and at 67% wear, but I still get 4 to 5 hours out of it. It will run 90 minutes past its supposed "dead" time.

Thanks for the update! Just so we're all on the same page. To find out the mah value, we simply divide the designed capacity by 11.1 (the voltage).

    So, your batteries are 24420 / 11.1 = 2200mah & 79920 / 11.1 = 7200mah
