    Hi all,
just got an Acer aspiron one 8 gig. I am not bothered about learning Linux as a full time hobby but I have mamaged to install some command line softwares.
My biggest problems are the most basib. Why can't I access pop 3 email on the default mail client on this. Everything is correct with passwords and settings. Also I cant log onto any messengers services. I have accessed them my other laptop with Vista.
There cant be a problem with my router. Can't understand why I cant download emails via pop3.
Does anyone know what it is I am doing wrong?

email - no-one else seems to have problems when they get all the settings right (if you're trying to use gmail, the port settings are not the usual pop3 ones). Can you give more detail - what service, what settings, what error messages?

Messenger - what services are you trying to connect to? Have you installed all the updates? Microsoft regularly change their logon systems to try to lock out competing messaging clients; the updates try to keep up with them.

Router: have you got a MAC filter set? If so it will not let in any machines other than those listed.

From the main screen, click 'settings' then 'Live Update'.
