    Hello,
    Is there a way to enable rotating cube in XFCE?
    (I have the "normal" XFCE-desktop, instead of the Linpus-desktop)
    In CompizConfig Settings Manager I enabled Desktop Cube and Rotate Cube, but nothing happens.
    Is there a way to get the cube to working?

    OK, nobody responded to my question.
    Must I therefore draw the conclusion that it is impossible to enable the rotating cube in XFCE?

    Thank you very much for responding Kapinouwi, I knew that key-combination, BUT it does not work!
    That's why I posted this question.
    Do you have any idea what could be the problem an where I could start searching for a solution?

    I have no idea if this has anything to do with it, but have you tried:

    Its ctrl+alt+left-mouse-click, once you select them all together your mouse pointer should disappear...once that happens use the touchpad to move your cube ;)

    Dear PhyrePhox,
    Thanks for this suggestion, but gthe gconftool seems to be missing on my system.
    At least in terminal it says: bash gconftool command not found
    When using alt+F2 it says:
    The command "gconf-editor" failed to run:
    Failed to execute child process "gconf-editor" (No such file or directory)

    So, I guess I have a real problem!
    Can this have something to do with this thread, which I followed to get the desktop I wanted?
    viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4310&p=51875&hilit=rjm#p51875

    Any suggestions to get the cube to work would be welcome!

    Thats strange, have you fired compiz up using terminal...

    Code:
    sudo compiz-manager
    you should easily identify what could be missing or the problem?

    Ok I thought I had a problem with getting the cube to work and found it was working but I could not see it work due to the transparency setting I had once I messed with the transparency setting I could see it was working. So I have to ask are you able to change desktops like the cube was working or is nothing happening?

    Hello ryanc021,
    This is what terminal tells me when using the command you suggested:

    Checking for Xgl: not present.
    Detected PCI ID for VGA: 00:02.0 0300: 8086:27ae (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
    Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
    Trying again with indirect rendering:
    Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
    Checking for non power of two support: present.
    Checking for Composite extension: present.
    Comparing resolution (1024x600) to maximum 3D texture size (2048): Passed.
    Checking for nVidia: not present.
    Checking for FBConfig: present.
    Checking for Xgl: not present.
    Starting emerald

    After the last line (=Starting emerald) the colour of the titlebars changed to red AND the cube works!!!
    ctrl+alt+right/left arrow rotates the cube!!
    With ctrl+alt+right-mouse-clic I can move the cube around
    I don't know how, or what the command above did, but it works!!!!

    Thanks for the help everybody gave in this thread, you helped a newby in Linux a little bit further !!!

    OK, I cheered to soon!!!
    After a reboot everything was gone.
    The cube did not work anymore.

    What must I do to make sure the cube is enabled, even after a reboot?

    Haha, I'm glad you've got it working and with no errors also.

    The thing about compiz is that its not enabled by default even though you'll find an option menu with plugin's you can select(I've made the same mistake :lol: )...

    Before we get to starting up, you'll need the fusion-icon package, that'll put a icon on your taskbar. It'll give you options to switch between compiz and the default xfce4 desktop, along with other stuff.

    So in Terminal do..
    Code:
    sudo yum install fusion-icon
    Once thats installed we want that icon to start up with the machine, so we'll edit the start-search_bar.sh file...

    Code:
    sudo mousepad /usr/share/search-bar/start-search_bar.sh
    and add the line and nothing else...
    Code:
    sudo fusion-icon
    above the "if [ $resolution = ....

    so it looks like this...

    then save and exit. Reboot.

    Finally, yep we're almost done... right-click the fusion icon > Select Window Manager > Compiz

    Done. Compiz at startup. Enjoy :)

    Dear ryanc021
    Thank you ever so much for your great help (I realize that I have much to learn)
    I followed your instructions to the letter and found out that the file which controls the search bar contained a # before every line.
    I rembered that when I followed the instructions in the thread to get the XFCE-desktop: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4310&p=51875&hilit=rjm#p51875
    At some point I had to put #'s before every line.
    So I did.
    Now I removed them again, in order to get this thing working.
    AND IT DOES!!!
    Great!
    But, after boot-up an error appears stating something is wrong with the trash.
    Th exact text of the message is:
    quote:
    Trash error:
    Unable to contactthe XFce Trash service
    Make sure you have a file manager installed that supports the XFce Trash service, such as Thunar
    unquote

    How can I get rid of this message??
    By the way: trash functions quite allright, and Thunar is installed, so I don't believe anything is wrong with it

    ps.
    I tried to attach a screenshot from the message, but this forum says it's to big.
    edit: I decreased the size of the file to 118 kb and tried once again to attach the screenshot, but now this message apears: "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

    Don't remove the #'s, put them back. Everything should work just fine, as I have also disabled the search-bar this way and have compiz working just fine here.
    Just make sure you don't # the sudo fusion-icon line, of course ;)

    The # symbol tells the computer to comment out that line as it is for the reader and not a command. For this reason you need to be careful to not put the # sign in the wrong place and you need to use the # sign in the right places. I am sure if you were to make a text copy of the file in question and post it here, some of the Gurus here would be glad to tell you where the # sign should be used for that instance. They may even tell you why.

    Here is a text-version of the file, as it is now.
    Compiz works fine!
    The trash-error message still shows up after every reboot

    #!/bin/sh
    #resolution=`xrandr |grep \*|awk '{print $1}'`
    #resolution=`xrandr |grep current|awk -F"current" '{print $2}'|awk -F"," '{print $1}'|sed 's/\ //g'`
    sudo fusion-icon
    #if [ $resolution = "1280x800" ];then
    # acer-search-desktop --x=650 --y=90 --width=490 --height=31
    #elif [ $resolution = "1024x600" ];then
    # acer-search-desktop --x=510 --y=65 --width=490 --height=31
    #else
    # acer-search-desktop
    #fi

    Could you post the contents from 'etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc' file, just all the 'clients' part is needed.
    From what I've read and understand the error has to deal with the order of processes that is loaded at boot. So if you could post that we'll start from there.

    Hello ryanc021,
    First of all: Everybody: thank you very much for all the help you are giving me.
    I really appreciate it.
    It shows how committed everybody here is in helping each other.
    That's really what a forum like this is all about.
    I hope that someday I get to the point that I can help somebody else!! (Will take a long time, I'm afraid ;) )

    Here's the content of the "client-part" of the file you requested:

    #Client0_Command=xfdesktopnew
    Client0_Command=xfdesktop
    Client0_PerScreen=False
    Client1_Command=xfwm4
    Client1_PerScreen=False
    Client2_Command=xfce4-panel
    Client2_PerScreen=False
    Client3_Command=/usr/share/search-bar/start-search_bar.sh
    Client3_PerScreen=False
    Client4_Command=xfcepost
    Client4_PerScreen=False

    Hi AvievH, its no problem at all. I've gotten so much info from here, that if I can help I will, it makes everyone's life easier and less stressfull ;)

    First off lets backup the file..

    Code:
    sudo cp /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc  /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc.original
    Now we're going to change the order to the below to hopefully stop the error:

    Code:
    #Client0_Command=xfdesktopnew
    Client0_Command=xfwm4
    Client0_PerScreen=False
    Client1_Command=xfce4-panel
    Client1_PerScreen=False
    Client2_Command=/usr/share/search-bar/start-search_bar.sh
    Client2_PerScreen=False
    Client3_Command=xfdesktop
    Client3_PerScreen=False
    Client4_Command=xfcepost
    Client4_PerScreen=False
    If that doesn't work there's a couple other things we could try, let see if this fixes it.
