    Hello,
I would really like to use that search bar. But I am definitely lost.
How do you open the usr file thing? where do I go.
I just started using linux yesterday. This is all very new to me.

Your root user is, um, "root".

For those of you that are struggling to put their background image of choice in /usr/whatever there is another way. Save the file to your home directory (not /mnt/home), press ALT-F2, type "xfce-setting-show" (without the quotes), click ok, on the new window that is displayed click on "desktop" (a new window opens), on the "appearance" tab under the heading "image" type the path to your image - in my case it's /home/user/blue.png in the textbox or click on the icon next to the textbox and use the GUI to find it.

You can now safely close all the windows you've opened.

This method appeases the "unix sysadmin" in me that says to keep user settings and preferences in a users directory... :)

copy the files to /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops/ (make sure you have root permissions).

    open right-click-menu > settings > background

in this menu you just change the image...

    hope that helps...

I really love the wallpapers. The only problem I have is that when I restart the system, it doesn't save my wallpaper settings and when it turns back on, no wallpaper is showing including the default. The enable image checkbox is not checked either even though I have ensured it was enabled when I log out. Any ideas as to why this occurs and any solutions? Much appreciated, thanks.

It's a pity that most of the uploaded files in this thread are gone. I was specially interested in dandesigns' search bar, as the original one doesn't look well on darker backgrounds. So I made my own one(s). First, a copy of the original search bar with a transparent background. Anti-aliasing does produce some not-so-nice effects on the rounded parts. I guess this is why Acer blended the background in their search bar graphic. A second layout I made is a rectangular search bar that doesn't have those problems. It's place and width is fitted to the Launcher box below. Just try it ;)

Be sure to backup the original search bar, because these layouts don't look very well on lighter backgrounds.

I've still got one question ;)

As most of the backgrounds are darker than the original, the 'settings' and 'help' buttons get unreadable. I've found the icons in
    Code:
    /usr/share/pixmaps
and a simple revert colors in gThumb does a great job. But I can't edit the color of the text beneath. I guess it's real typo and not a graph. Now I'm wondering where the config to change this might be. I tried
    Code:
    /home/user/.config/xfce4/mcs_settings/desktop.xml
but changing the color codes there does not affect anything.

    [attachment=0:ajiuaqaz]settings_colour.png[/attachment:ajiuaqaz]

    Some clue anybody?

    Thanks, André

    Just finished my first attempt...

I might put the search bar back later, once I work out how to customise it!

yes...just edit the desktopfiles...(you need to have root-permissions...make backups first)

    Code:
    /usr/share/desktop-directories/Settings.directory
    /usr/share/desktop-directories/help.directory

simply edit the nametags to be blank, in my case this would be (i am german):
    Code:
    Name[de]=
if you want to be sure, delete all name-lines except for
    Code:
    name=
    and leve it blank...

    hope that helps...

    greetings

Thank you, SirWilliam, that's exactly what I already did and described in my blog - shows me I was on the right path ;)

Meanwhile I set up a little tool to change all of the files in one go. Please see thread http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10696 if you'd like to try it. It includes German, French and English localization.

    Greetings, viva

I am interested in seeing lots of these files but they keep being removed. I especially wanted to see the sunset wallpaper and get the transparent background for my search bar. But as they keep being removed i don't have them, so why don't we all store our stuff in the public album on http://aspireonedesktop.spaces.live.com/ (which i have just set up) and link to it rather than attaching the pics. That way it won't get removed over time. To put something on this album just send me an email with the file attached and I will upload it that way everyone will be able to access them without a time limit! Or still upload them here (re-upload the ones that have gone) but then I will put them on the page before they expire. This also means people won't have to spend ages getting them from file sharing sites and they can browse them all and choose which one that they want before they download.

PS. I have uploaded the following already:
    coolblue
    green
    linuxinside
    purplish
    red
    royal (black)
    sepia
    and tangerine
all the others r missing so I can't get hold of them. I got the above from the rar file that was upload on my request when the files first disappeared. Please re-upload the rest or send them to me as I said above.

    hope you agree to participate,

    wollac
