    Hello,
Re my Acer Aspire One model AOA 150: Perhaps as a result of a severe electrical storm last night I no longer have an Ethernet connection. The icon for the Ethernet adapter has disappeared from the Device Manager list. (The icon for the Atheros Wireless Network Adapter is still shown, and the wireless connection works—but I have to go to an internet café to get online.)
Any suggestions about how to restore my Ethernet connection? I was told by AT&T that I need to get a new interface card—don’t know how/where to do this. (The computer is out of warranty.)
    Thanks in advance! Noel

Acer's LAN card is build-in to mobo - you can not just replace it...

Have you installed any software that relays on LAN connection?? Maybe something with drivers... You can try System Restore back to date before storm...

You can also buy USB to Ethernet adapter...

If indeed you fried your ethernet but can get internet over wi-fi, why not get a wi-fi router at home? I have my main machine hooked to ethernet and the netty on wi-fi and there is no functional difference in most applications, and you can use the netbook all over the house. They're really cheap these days.

Thanks for the advice. I bought an adapter and am happily back on line. (There's a reason I didn't want to get a router, but it's too complicated to explain here.)

Be careful with lightening storms - I had my first laptop (a little NEC, mid 1990s) completely fry on me while I was doing income tax on it. $2000 and a lot of work gone in a flash. Ever since I'm pretty careful about shutting down computers and peripherals and unplugging the power bar if I know a storm is coming - but at least be sure there is good surge protection between the machinery and the wall socket.
