The European Union announced Monday it will launch in December a forum bringing together Internet firms and law enforcement agencies to combat online extremism.

The move comes amid growing alarm in Europe over the use of social media as a powerful recruiting tool, especially by the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

"We need to counter this abuse of the Internet and its growing role in radicalisation with determination and a shared plan of action. That is exactly the reason why we are setting up the EU Internet Forum,"EU Home Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said.

"I will officially launch the Internet Forum on December 2 this year, with most of the large internet players around the table," he told a meeting of home affairs ministers in Brussels.

I think it was about time, I'm so tired of those groups like ISIS distributing his hate and propaganda so freely online. Plus look how many people have been brainwashed to go there and join them? All those European girls! God, I bet most of them are regretting it so badly. I stumbled upon the blog that is supposed to belong to a women who is in charge to attract more girls... it's sickening. She talks of that place and those people as if it was the most wonderful and normal place in the world. That kind of sites should be removed.

There are a lot of sites that need to be removed, but they exist! If they don't operate online, they will still operation in some ways in real life. But getting rid of some sites like that is still better than not.

@IcyBC The blog of a woman who tells her ''story'' of how she left her home country to join ISIS and how she is living now... comes to mind. I tried to find her old blog, but it seems it's gone. There still is a Twitter account linked to that name and seems to be still in use... this kind of sites are the first ones that come to mind when I think of this. Those sites shouldn't be online, they have gained so many adepts thanks to their presence online... they need to go.
