    BCM4311 based cards

DELL 1390 is almost all the same as BCM94311 reference cards that includes BCM2050 b/g basebands.
There are almost all the same cards as this. HP's 395261-001(=407253-001) maybe the same.

DELL 1490 is almost all the same as BCM94311 reference cards that includes both BCM2050 and BCM2060, that means this card have two basebands, for 11b/g and 11a.
There are almost all the same cards as this. HP's 395263-002(=407254-002) maybe the same.
This card works fine with Acer Ferrari F1100 BCM4311 driver at acer-euro FTP.

But for my experiment, MAIN and AUX connectors are different from the default Atheros card in AspireOne. When I connect antenna lines opposite, AspireOne detect card itself and driver seems works well and I can see MAC address of the new card, but cannot catch any wifi waves. In this case, change antenna connection of two lines makes the card works fine.

The difference between 1390(BCM94311 b/g) and 1490(BCM94311 a/b/g) is the shape of the shield iron panel.

I keep hearing different opinions on which card I need to buy to swap out the internal wifi.

Which one is the easiest to install and works perfectly? Anyone have a link?

As long as you get one that is seen as an Airport card by the system (Dell 1490, Broadcom or whatever, cf. my signature), they're all the same physically and you won't have to install anything in terms of software.

Go to eBay, search for my card and buy this one : I can guarantee it works.

I have replaced the Wifi module with a Broadcom BCM43xx (as stated in System Profiler..), which I took out of my apple tv as it always have been connected over ethernet. This n-wifi module works great and I get great reception!

I do have one concern: it's a lot hotter! I can feel it through the casing. Do you guys think this would be a problem in the long run?

ok, so this is my first post from osx(dual boot with windows 7). pretty slick. i skipped some of the install steps(namely the iso key board stuff cause it started acting wonky when i tried to replace the files so I skipped those steps..all is fine right now).

didnt read much of this thread, but noticing that my wireless doesnt work...and it looks like it wont unless i actually replace the card?????

It *could* work, look here for more: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11536

I had several problems with it, but i bought one of the here recommended Dell cards on eBay for 7 Euro - a much better solution i guess. ;)

    Hi.
Sorry that I ask, it sounds stupid, but I feel stupid...
I've installed Dell 1490 wifi card, but OS X 10.5.6 iDeneb doesn't recognise it.
The system doesn't see any Airport card.
What should I do, to make it work? Can anyone help me?
    Thank you. :)

Either it's broken (DOA ?) or you didn't plug it in properly. It it works and installed right, you have absolutely nothing to do to get Mac OS X to see it.

I was able to get my Dell wifi card working successfully. These are my only current issues:

-Webcam doesnt seem to work, photo booth shows an all black screen
-headphone jack works but I have to manually go into system prefs and mute the main speakers and turn the headphone speakers up, is there a way to auto switch this?
-My external dell monitor doesnt seem to work when I plug it in.

    Any ideas?

I restarted the AAO with the Dell monitor plugged in and now it is able to mirror my AAO display. But it only shows up as 800x600 and only is a mirror of the current display and very blurry. How can I make it extend to that monitor like it should instead of just a copy?

After the installation of the new DW1390 REV00 the card recognized without doing anything in OS X and easily after the driver installation without the program in XP. I use WPA PSK encryption to access my modem/router.
...but I have the following problems:

    OS X Leopard
    - The light is on but it has half luminance compared to XP
    - It seems to stuck while loading web pages from safari and firefox. Refresh and restart of the browsers make them to load pages but they are much slower compared to XP.

    Windows XP
    - The light take some time to light
    - The only way to connect to my access point is to CHECK the "Connect without broadcasting" from preferences. The older card didn't have that problem. I also changed the default 801.11b to 801.11b/g from the advanced tab of the cards properties.

How can I solve these problems?
Does the WPA PSK encryption have any relationship with my problems?

I have just installed the 1390 card. I can use it OK but the wifi icon on the menu bar always show that it is not "configured". Even I configure the wifi settings in system pref the icon still shows "not configured". Also the wifi will turn itself off after a few minutes. I did have a USB wifi installed but I have already uninstall the drivers. Does it matter how the black and white cables connect to the card? Do I have to reinstall OSX from scratch to have full functionality of the 1390 card? Thanks!
