What about combo Bluetooth/WiFi modules? I'd like to kill two birds with one stone here. Has anyone tried one? What works/doesn't work? Does the BT hardware interface through the miniPCI slots USB pins or are they still free to mod something else onto?

Has anyone tried using a wifi dongle with their OSX AAO? Or am I looking for too simple a solution?

Nice one Azz. Did you need any drivers or was it supported automatically by iAtkos after all the diablo kexts etc.?

    Cheers,

Yes, I was using a wg111v2 on iDeneb 1.4 without any problems. Think the driver might have been included in the install options on iDeneb. It has the Realtek 8187L chipset.

Now using a Dell DW1390 after changing out the Atheros card

Cool, works like a charm (once I got the USB driver, not the PCI one)

Received an iDeneb OSX install on a usb stick, I increased my ram, installed the 1390 wireless card and everything worked apart from the multicard slot.
I was having problems though with variable boot up times anything from 45 seconds to 2.5 minutes. So I asked the fellow who supplied the installer if he could think of a solution.
    Here are his suggestions.:
22.- From the tools files, copy the folder ShutdownSound into /Library/StartupItems (did that)
23.- From the tools files, run OSX86Tools and enable Quartz GL and reboot (If after the boot process it ask for fix something, just hit FIX) (did that but Quartz was already installed, I did it earlier)
24.- Run in terminal "diskutil repairPermissions /" (couldn't get that to run so instead ran repair permissions from disk utilities)
and also see that you have deleted /System/Library/Extensions/IOSDHCIBlockDevice.ktext and
/System/Library/Extensions.ktext (should that latter file be in the extensions folder or just loose in the system/library/?)
Does anyone recognise this partial list?

I did all the above but found it strange that in the original install instructions the IOSDHCIBlockdevice.kext was installed by the kext helper b7

Since I did that SD cards are no longer recognised either in the left hand memory slot nor in USB SD card readers in any of the usb ports.
Before I go for an SSD wipeout and clean install can anyone think of why a system that was working albeit jerkily all of a sudden stops recognising my sd cards?

I just swapped the stock Atheros card for a Dell 1390 (Broadcom BCM94311MCG) that I bought off of Ebay for $12. The swap was successful. It was instantly recognized as an Airport in OSX (Ideneb 10.5.6). I also have the card working in Windows. I found a post on Insanelymac that contained the vanilla Broadcom drivers.

    Hello all,

I have been reading and tracking this site for some time. It has been a great help and resource as I have setup my own Aspire One.

I have registered now to ask a question I have been unable to find the answer for.

I have the DW1390 wireless card installed in my AAO but have intermittent connectivity with it. By intermittent I mean, When the system starts up, it does not always detect the wireless card right away. Most of the time i need to shutdown and restart several times before the wireless card shows up and is available. Once it is functioning, it will work just fine until the machine is shut down again. This can be for days at a time.

When the system starts and does not detect the card, it shows the wireless symbol up top but it is just the outline and shows "no wireless card detected" or something similar until I reboot several times and it comes in full again.

Currently running the iDeneb version of the OS. Have had the same issue with other flavors as well. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

I think your card might be faulty. Did you purchase it from Ebay? Is it still possible to get in contact with the seller?

Re: Newbie Question - Any particular OSX?

Sorry for the basic question but I am a newbie to the AA1 and to OSX

I looked on eBay for OSX and I noticed that some had animal names like Leopard. Do I need to be careful which OSX I buy? Is one version noticeable better than the others?

I want to install it on an 8GB AA1. Does it run reasonable well?

    Thanks in advance.

Pardon me if this has been answered elsewhere.

I just used iDeneb 1.4 to add OS X to my Acer Aspire One D250.

I know there's a lot of instructions around for switching out wifi cards for the 150, but is anything different with the 250? I notice for instance all the easy access doors on the bottom of the 250. I wondered if changing the wifi card is now easier.

    Thanks.

    Anyone out there?

Pardon me for asking again. I was just curious if the methods are the same with the 250 for changing out the wifi card.

    Thanks.

Accessing (replacing) the wifi card requires that you disassemble the D250. The third door on the bottom is for a 3G modem and it does not conform to a standard mini-PCIe slot. For the D250, you will need a 1/2 height card. You might see if you can get the person that posted this message to give you some guidence:

I installed 10.6.2 on My D250-1958 using netbookinstaller and the builtin WI-FI worked right out of the box. However bluetooth and webcam do not work.

I used mechdrew's netbook installer on my D250, and the bluetooth works out of the box, but you need to keep pressing the bluetooth button just after the grey apple loading screen appears, until it lights up. If you press the button once its loaded to the desktop, it won't work. Confirmed its actually working after tethering my D250 to my iPhone 3GS

Mine works well under kalaway 10.5.2 updated to 5.5
I used the dell 1420 card. At first it would connect for a while then disconnect and i was not able to reconnect.
I dont know if it was the contacts on the card being dirty or swapping the wires but it works great for now.
