Hello. I have just bought a machine running linux linpus lite with the XFCE desktop. I want to use an esternal CD drive to load files, music etc on. Is there an easy way to make the drive mount automatically each time the machine is booted, and to unmount the drive via the desktop before powering the machine down? I want to make the process as easy as possible - I only have Windows/DOS knowledge and my wife, who wants to use it, has no PC no how at all.

Any help or tips would be appreciated

I have an external dvd writer. When I plug it in the USB port nothing appears to happen. However, if I run 'dmesg' I see that it has been spotted as /dev/sr0. So I put a cd/dvd etc into the drive and it mounts and appears in 'home' and 'filesystem.' To unmount/eject I just click the icon in 'home.'

So I think the answer to your question is....it does just what you want!

It won't see it until you insert a CD.

I now see that the drive mounts ok and a can see data discs ok when loaded inti the external drive. I can't see music cd's though. When inserted these just open Madia Master and I can play the music but not copy the files like i can from a memeory stick. Any ideas please???????

have you ever tried to do this in windows? you need to extract & convert the audio to a file (wav, mp3, etc), not just do a copy over, it's not in data format like it is on your memory stick.
