I have a Dell 15" monitor hooked up to my 532H and it works fine except for one thing.

I can go form using both monitors to either but here is my problem.

When using the external monitor, it sets the resolution to 1024x768. It is a standard monitor not wide screen.

In that resolution the screen will blink to black for a second and then back to my regular screen. Sometimes it may happen every few seconds or 20 to 30 seconds between blinks. If I set the resolution to 800x600 there is no blinking.

When using the netbook by itself I never have gotten any blinking.

Just bought about 3 weeks ago. Wonder if VGA driver should be upgraded. Running origional 1 gig Ram.

    THanks for any responses.

Driver is the first thing to suspect in this type of problems... Upgrade it and you shall see if there is any difference. I would also look at refresh rate set for external monitor...

I tried installing the newest driver and dropping the color from true to high but still blinking about every 3 to 5 seconds.

BLinks in 1024x768 but is fine in 800x600.

Is there a way to allocate more memory to the video? I think it is set on 64megs.

    Can't think of anything else.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Joe

What I would also do is running Live Linux of USB... Ubuntu may be the best choice as it is very intuitive so you should not have any problems navigating in the system... If problem persist in other OS it may be hardware problem...

Using Xp, with a new machine, be sure to take a visit to Microsoft Update download site and install all the "optional" hardware fixes/drivers that don't appear with the desktop Windows Update alerts.

If you're trying to set resolution using the XP Desktop Properties dialog, instead try using the Intel graphics "Display Properties" dialog, "Display Settings" Tab.

There is also a very good free XP application for setting up dual display called DisplayFusion - I use it for my main machine, though not the netbook.
