    Hi there,

Sometimes when hooking up to a TV you need to connect the TV and switch it on prior to turning on the laptop.

We have that problem at work quite a lot with contractors and the likes!

    Hope that helps

CTRL-ALT F1 and CTRL-ALT F3 will toggle between the laptop and the monitor.

Did any one ever find a solution to this problem? I have an A150 and it will not recognise an external monitor. I have tried plugging it in before power up or after but it never shows up in the display control panel so I cannot switch to it. Any help will be appreciated.

Which operating systems are you using? (Linux, Windows)
Are they factory installs? or have you installed from your own media?
Have you got the appropriate Launchpad and Graphics drivers installed?

It is the factory Windows XP install with only a few removals (like removed their McAfee and installed my own AV program) I re-started with a factory reload a week back. The Device manager shows all hardware is properly installed. I am thinking something is wrong with the hardware.

Have you checked under your screen resolution settings to see if the second monitor is being detected?

In a blank area of the desktop, right click and choose properties. In one of the tabs it will list all monitors detected and let you choose your screen resolution. Open that tab and check to see if it has detected the external monitor (it may be detected, but not active, so you might have to right click on the image for monitor "2" and activate it. From here you should be able to select desktop clone mode which will give you two monitors, after that, the FN+F5 combo should work.
