JimK, you might be interested with this. It seems like Pulseaudio has some issues[according to Jorge], so doing a

    Code:
    sudo yum remove pulseaudio
would remove the the pulseaudio and you will get a default sound level of 100% every reboot.

    is this Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex?

well, after watching that video, i felt quite fascinated with it, but it is still Fedora 10 for me.

I get the master sound level to 100%. The front and the headphone level are resetted at every reboot. :(

Yes, success. Thank you, jhedrotten. Now I'm starting to run out of stuff to complain about with F10 :) .

Now my turn to offer a tip. I couldn't figure out how to disable the lock on the Gnome screensavers when running XFCE, so I added the regular Xscreensavers. You can configure those in the XFCE settings dialog and disable the locking there. I think they're nicer screensavers anyway.

@jhedrotten: Yes, I'm using Ibex, but it definitely doesn't look like that movie, but I'm sure you can get his window manager and it look so. I got WLan working for now, and after a week I'm still happy with this.

you can also adjust the standard screensaver settings by typing

    Code:
    gnome-screensaver-preferences
    into the terminal :)

I'm quite satisfied with F10. However i would like to know how to get boot speed down.. How can i turn off services and which of them are safe to disable? I have only one user, so how do i disable GDM, and auto login my user without any graphical login thingies? I think disabling GDM makes booting at least a bit faster, no?

    Thanks :)

Look at http://jorge.ulver.no/2008/11/10/fedora ... spire-one/ , which has this tip:
(But you may want to keep CUPS.)
Jorge's page is probably the best guide out there for setting up Fedora XFCE spin on the Aspire One.
I haven't disabled GDM, but I did set it to auto-login by using a timed login. Edit (as root) /etc/gdm/custom.conf to add these lines:
    Code:
    [daemon]
    TimedLoginEnable=true
    TimedLogin=yourusernamehere
    TimedLoginDelay=1
I believe you can set TimedLoginDelay to zero if you want.

I'm not sure about auto-login without gdm, but I can tell you how to get rid of gdm.

To disable gdm at boot time, we switch from booting in runlevel 5 to booting in runlevel 3:
    Edit /etc/inittab as root
    Code:
    sudo mousepad /etc/inittab
Find the line id:5:initdefault:,change the 5 to a 3, and reboot.

For actually rid your AA1 of gdm (not necessary unless you want the disk space back),
    open a Terminal window and
    Code:
    sudo yum remove gdm

WinXP, Fedora 10, Fedora Rawhide, Ubuntu 8.10, Ubuntu 9.04 alpha with sickboy's kernel, Linpus, and I did a frugal install of
acer-puppy-4.10-27 but haven't booted it yet (not on my AA1 at the moment). For Fedora 10 and Ubuntu 8.10, have both GNOME and LXDE installs. Way too many variants, but this way there's likely always be one or two that I haven't messed up.

    whoa. :D :D

by the way, for tjose who will just install F10, you might find autoten useful:

    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=171660

it could save a lot of work for you guys. it will install things like madwifi driver, flash plugins, etc. automatically. it comes with a graphical dialog box on which you just tick which packages you want to install. sweet.

aaah nice to see that you made good use of my links :p

okik i got a trick people i think it will reduce the boot time by 10 seconds ... the problem is that i am a noob that i don't know how to work my way in "intrid" and kernels

simply when i boot my fedora 10 and press esc ( while the fedora loading bar is increasing ) a message comes up saying stablization is not found waiting 10 seconds ... i did some googling and found the tweak for that ...

i have exams soon and i am a person who can't study if his pc is messed up so please try it and tell me
    so here it is

Yes, it worked for me. No more stabilization message for me. But it still doesnt feel 10 seconds faster. Should try with stopwatch with both initrds..

    It works for me too.
Now I can boot till the gdm login in 17 seconds :) no bad...
I solved also the issue with volume levels after reboot.
I've just installed the alsa utility and after setted the appropriate levels just run as root :
    Code:
    alsa-cntl store

now at every reboot i've got the last volume settings ( i'didn't needt to remove pulse-audio)

Thanks for the tip, Sal. :D

I think the command is wrong though, i think it should be:

    Code:
    sudo alsactl store
I installed asla utils and I thought that you have mistyped the code and knew it would be an error message if you type it in.
So at first instinct, I tried an old one that I knew about alsa and it worked. thanks for the idea.

by the way, I have a quick question here for because of curiosity. I do not have any uses for the internal mic but since you have used it with Skype, may I know which volume control is responsible for the built in mic, and for the mic slot beside the headphone jack?

when i opened xfce-mixer, i have Master(which is useless), Headphone(which is redundant), PCM, Front(controls the speaker volume), Front Mic Boost, Capture, Capture,1 and Beep.

So which one of those controls is responsible for the build in mic and the mic jack?
