It is as easy as open a Terminal, and then

    Code:
    wget "http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=linuxintel&lang=en-US&version=3.0.0"
    then

    Code:
    tar -zvxf OOo*
    and then

    Code:
    sudo rpm -i OOO*/RPMS/o*
    finally

    Code:
    sudo rpm -i OOO*/RPMS/desktop-integration/openoffice.org3.0-redhat*
    That will install OpenOffice3.

i said in a previous post that the cpu was not scaling. I was wrong it is. I installed open office writer and cale (word and excel). The easy way...

    # yum install openoffice.org-writer
    # yum install openoffice.org-calc

Another thing I hae noticed is I followed the guide but the solar boot screen does not work and my volume always starts at 0%, not that this really bothers me as it saves battery and i just turn it up when I need it.

Mine boots alot slower than claimed in the guide around a minute id say.

hey people the new kernel just works fine ( no need to make an intrid file to cancel the additional 10 seconds on the boot )

mmm i mean 2.6.27.9-159 just got a clean install yesterday and found it by chance + kmod-madwifi is already out for it

Add the following to rc.local to get both card readers working even if they're empty at boot
    Code:
    # to get sd card readers to respond to cards inserted after boot:
    /sbin/modprobe pciehp pciehp_force=1

You can set it to auto-login by using a timed login. Edit (as root) /etc/gdm/custom.conf to add these lines:
    Code:
       [daemon]
        TimedLoginEnable=true
        TimedLogin=yourusername
        TimedLoginDelay=1

The TimedLoginDelay is the number of seconds the GDM login screen is shown before "yourusername" is automatically logged in. It can be set to zero if you don't want to see the login screen at all.

Well I've just followed the guide mentioned earlier and I'm really pleased :D

Now a noob type of question - under Limpus we could 'right click' by tapping the corner of the touchpad. I can't seem to do this with Fedora. There doesn't seem to be any way to configure this under mouse settings so I'm guessing that I need to edit a file somewhere.

    Can someone help?

you the kiddie. All working perfectly now. I am definately getting more than 2:30 hours on fc10. Not timed it yet but id say its closer to 2:45. It does boot alot slower though no way near the claimed 25 secs on the guide. Id say at least a minute maybe more. I am very happy with this spin though everything works yet I have the power and flexibility of a full distro at my finger tips. I have not booted up my dell laptop since xmas eve lol!!

    Hi all,

The right hand sd slot still only works for me if I have a card plugged in at boot - no problems with the left one however. Tried adding the line to rc.local - no effect. So deleted that and tried the suggestion on Jorge's site (post 79) about creating an additional file in /etc/modprobe.d ended up with neither card slot working.

So now back to square one :( left card slot fine, right hand slot only working if card in at boot. I could live with it because I'm really pleased with how this distro runs on my one - but if it can be fixed...

    Any other ideas?

Works for me. I googled some instructions on seems that the SD-card doesn't lose it's files if it's formatted as XFS.

aaaaaaaaaaah at last something i can answer :D:D i am a noob by the way :D

okik first you need to enable SMHconfigure by the way in this forum
    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=206814

after the restart to make sure open a terminal and type
    synclient -l
( you should see a list of your touchpad settings and amoung the list there should be two items called RTCornerButton & RBCornerButton )
the next command is to assign the cornor buttons for the clicks :D so

    synclient RTCornerButton=2 ; synclient RBCornerButton=3

while 2 = middle button and 3 = right click

the problem is that i couldn't find a way to make synclient remmber this after a restart so i just added the last line
    synclient RTCornerButton=2 ; synclient RBCornerButton=3
to the auto start commands in the settings tap

i hope i did well in my explanation

hey people i don't know why ( maybe because of linpus ) but i do prefare kpowersave a lot more than gnome-power-manager

it gives you more details and more control

    so simply to get it

    install kpowersave and remove gnome-power-manager

<<< i was afraid uninstalling gnome-power-manager would mess up my system ... but Fedora accepts it really nicely

Yes you did good :D and all works perfectly after reboot by adding that line to the autostarted apps. Speaking of which, presumably they all add a little time to the boot process, so how many can I safely 'untick'?

I'm guessing the Print Queue Applet would be alright to untick and what about the SELinux Trouble shooter thing - didn't we disable SELinux in Jorge's guide :?:

    Cheers

It is bound to happen, because kpowesave is not native in xfce and is intended for kde. mine is a lot faster now after removing a lot of unwanted apps and some gnome apps which tends to slow my aao. keeping it simple with as much native xfce apps i could find to use and removing the gnome ones lol. :D
