I can't access my homepage in Facebook--just the headings appear. I can't update my profile, post comments or update my status. For Twitter it tells me that javascript must be enabled. I have enabled it in Internet Options (allow active scripting) but I still can't access my Twitter page.

I have Windows XP, SP3 installed and Interest Explorer 7. I'm using the most up-to-date version of Java RE. This is an Acer Aspire One.

    Can anyone help?

Another thing I've noticed is that when I click on Windows Update, the page opens but the content is blank and I can't click on any of the links yet each time I shut down the computer, it says it's updating but I have no idea if it really is or not because I can't view the update history.

    Please help.

I have a 4th issue I guess. When posting in the comment boxes, cpu usage goes up to 100% ... anyone else experiencing this?

Which antivirus are you using? If you are using the preinstalled AV, it can slow you down, and may cause some of your issues. Try unistalling it and using a light weight AV such as AVG.

Booting into safe mode with networking has no effect. I am using AVG anti-virus and deleted all traces of the AV program that was preinstalled on the computer.

    Pat,

this is sounding like an IE thing or java.

Did you do a reset on IE7 to being it back to factory?
Have you tried something other than IE like FireFox?

How do I do a reset on IE7?

I haven't tried Firefox yet. That's probably next but I've seen problems mentioned on here with that too.

Done. Still no effect. Installed Firefox and it works with that but I don't care for the Firefox interface. Guess I'll be stuck with it though. I miss the tabbed browsing of IE7.

    Thanks.

You should be able to do tabbed browsing in firefox since it had tabbed browsing about a year before IE. You can also try to upgrade to IE 8.

Have you tried disabling your BHOs? Many of them can drag a browser down, especially at places like Twitter or Facebook that have alot of extras running.
