Fails to show desktop on start up

    For no apparent reason my machine now fails to show the main desktop on start up, all I get is a blank screen and the touch pad cursor. I have tried a 'hard" shut down and rebot with no success.
    Has anyone else had this problem.

    I have an 8gb machine running Linux, it is two weeks old and has worked perfectly until now.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Clevin. I had looked around the forums but missed that one. Interestingly though my machine is running on Lipus AND has v.3109 of the Bios.

    I have now posted this on that thread.
