Fancontrol works just fine for me. I have the new bios(v3114).

The error messages in the systems log is a know bug. It's been posted many times.

Details on the new bios here:

    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer ... v3304.html

Apparently it fixes the dropped wlan among other things (possibly the black screen/bricking issue).

I can confirm that this fan control software isn't working since the bios update.

Okey, a little off topic but will that reduce battery life? (I used to keep the bright as low as possible) and what's with the "power consuption" changes? what would that be?
I think I'll keep my old BIOS just in case... :(

It may actually improve battery life, like how Vista users have lower temps than XP's (and Linux)?
That's due to how the bios setup the ACPI and when the CPU enters C4 state (read on macles's blog)

Well, I tried the other software too and it is not working. Same issue as this one. When you turn on the software, instead of winding the fan down it actually starts the fan going at high speed. Turn it off and it runs at low speed. The fan does not shut off at all!

Until this nice piece of software is capabel running it, I am not going to upgrade to the new BIOS,
I really like my silent AAO , and dont care that much about the brightness/battery life (still waiting for the 6-cell ;) ).

    Cheers,
    Tony

Thought I'd try too (nobody answered 3 previous queries): If I decide I don't want to run this anymore, how do I uninstall it?

    Thanks.

the software does not come with a setup file. it's just an executable. if you don't like it, you simply delete it (though you should probably disable autostart before hand).

Sorry, I should have been more specific: How do I uninstall the TVICPort driver that's a prerequisite.

Yep, I have to cconfirm that the software stops working when BIOS is updated to the newest version. The Linux-fanhack stops working as well, please release a new version of this veeeeeery useful software :)

Yeah, if the changelog after 3114 looks like this, it's quite obvious to upgrade the bios:
