Thanks Ralf, I know that others are working on other fancontrol software but your AA1fancontrol software is still my number one choice to keep my AA1 quiet. Works great and without any glitches or problems... .

I think there is no competition, only 3 tools for the same netbook. It's better than zero.
    Thanks Ralf !

In the disclaimer it said that the software can destroy your computer (under the wrong settings), so I decided not to go with it. I'm not a very technical person so I can't count on myself to keep up with the right settings.

    What do you think?

Nice job, would you share the code you used to read the bios version?

    thanks

Hi Ralf I really like your software, but I have a few remarks that maybe you can use in improving the software:

    - The tray icon is almost completely uniform in color, and light green doesnt have good contrast to for instance the xp silver theme that I'm using. I can hardly see the icon. Could you put a black edge around it or maybe change the color?
    - And maybe also some different theme options for the bar itself, it's very vista-ish while most people are using xp on the a-one I think.
    - If you'd decrease the font size (not bold), the bar could be a bit smaller and less obtrusive on screen. The size of the competition's interface is much more in line with the small screen for instance.

    Thanks for your good work.

I have to agree about the color. Even with the default blue color scheme or using the updated Royale theme in XP, the icon is very hard to see. This posting did remind me that the official Microsoft Zune theme does come with a black toolbar. I installed it and it looks great!

You can download it here if anyone is interested:

Minor/Major Note for those who have my previous configuration:
    I originally had a
1GB Mem/120GB HD AA1 with XP Home and bios v3.114
I installed the new software v1.1 (had been using v1.0b)
I rebooted, and noticed a spike in the CPU usage. Turns out that with this bios, XP and new version of the software, AA1FanControl was using about 47/60% CPU.
I upgraded my bios to v3.304 via Sandisk Cruzer Micro loaded with DOS and all is working fine now.

However, I thought I needed to let someone know so the original author can fix the software.

EDIT: I am in agreement on the tray icon setup. The color is fine for me since I use the Vista Inspirat theme, but for other themes (and before I changed to this one), the green without an outline is almost imperceptable.

I have the same problem with BIOS 3114. CPU spikes to 60%-70% in a regular interval. I was using the previous version without problems so far. Will try a BIOS update later.

Also had the problem with high CPU usage (happened at startup, stayed liked that), with CPU around 50-65% usage with v1.1 of the AA1Fan Control and Bios 3114. Have reverted back to the old software for now (which works like a charm).

Keep up the good work, this AAO may have gone back if not for this software, the fan noise is something I could not deal with.

    Hi Ralf,

has 1.1 installed and have now installed 1.2 with the same problem with both versions. The fan controller switches off the fan (peace and quiet at last!) but when the CPU reaches/exceeds the temperature reached, it doesn't switch on the fan to cool it down again, BIOS is 3114. Any ideas?

Other than the fan and the one occurance of the netbook switching off (Just like my old Siemens mobile :D ), am very happy with the baby Acer :)

1.2 is no good on my A150 with v3114 BIOS. It kept shutting the machine off hard (just powered right off as if power was pulled). No issues with 1.0b version, which I'm using now.

Thanks for the efforts, it's much appreciated!

    *patiently waiting for 1.3*

I updated my BIOS now and everything seems fine. I had the sudden shut down problems which I couldn't explain until some user mentioned the same thing :). I run 1.1 without problems now and no more shut down problem with BIOS 3304. CPU usage is good and temperature control works which didn't work under BIOS 3114.

So it's confirmed that 1.2 works with BIOS 3304, but not previous versions of the BIOS? I'm still running 1.0 on my 3114 BIOS but planning on update it.

Thanks to goofball for sending the older version. Works a treat now :)

Only have my Aspire One two days now and can see my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo being retired for most things :)

Thanks to you all for your help. Hope I'll be able to make some valuable contributions down the road.
