Well they could engineer a better seal on the heatsink assembly for a start.

The CPU cooler consists of a blower fan that pulls cool air through the grille at the lower front of the case and the blows it through a closed duct formed by the heatsink and the bottom of the case. The duct is "sealed" by some adhesive felt along the edges of the heatsink.

The suspicion is that the felt seal is not very good. Air leaking past the seal increases the noise level and hot air is sucked back into the blower fan inlet.

The situation is probably worse on my own AAO since I have raised the motherboard on spacers to take some of the play out of the touchpad buttons. If I apply pressure to the bottom of the case this seems to help seal the duct and the fan is bearably quiet.

I intend to replace the felt tape with some thicker foam draught excluder tape.

Other users here have reported some success by closing the heatsink/blower duct properly using duct tape and aluminium sheet from a soda/pop can.

It certainly will drain the battery.

Perhaps the first post in this thread needs to be updated?
The thread is 35 pages long, and I don't have time to read it all.

I'm running 3309 and aa1fancontrol crashes my computer. I assume the BIOS is shutting it down since the fan is turned off.
Is there a solution to this problem or do I have to try some other software?

Did you disable autostartup from within the tool itself before you uninstalled everything? if not, you might want to do that first (ie. reinstall, start up the program, disable the autostart setting, exit the program, and then uninstall).

Ralf, thanks for the utility! Seems this is the only one working in Windows 7 at the moment.

    Edit:
Actually, the open sourced A1CTL is working too. Just had to solve the MSCOMCTL error (VB 6 runtime).

On A1CTL I use the following settings on my XP Pro 120GB version

    Off: 50 oc
    Slow: 55 oc
    Auto: 60 oc

I know some people have higher settings, but I err on the side of caution as I don't know how much damage I would be doing by have them higher.

Most of the time the fan is off, but start watching video, then the temp soon rises. Normal Word/Excell & Internet then it's silent.

    Hope the above helps :)

I'm running on the 8G model with bios 3308 and the utility works(not stable) only with unpacthed mode...in which bios the programm works?
also i think 36 pages are too much for this post...!
the bios i found is on acers site: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/no ... e_110.html

edit:I dissabled the event record service and i don't see any hd activity...was that ok?cause now it(almost) works!

For the Atom, 90C is the maximum junction temperature (temperature at which stability is no longer guaranteed). 125C is the catastrophic temperature (temperature at which it is about to go into meltdown). Intel claims that the processor will shut down at 125C, which is highly likely as previous Intel chips have been excellent at overtemp shutdown.

    (first post - w00t!)

I know it's been stated before, but I thought I'd do so again. While the processor may be rated for quite high temperatures, that does not mean that other components can handle the same level of heat without being damaged. I'm not an engineer, so I can't really argue one way or another. It's just something to keep in mind.

I have the same setup as you and I have mine set at:

    Off: 50
    Slow: 55
    Auto: 60

With these settings I find that my AAO is silent most of the time.

    Hope this helps :)

    Help!

    Hey guys,

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a little problem.

I installed the AA1 Fan control program as soon as I bought my AA1 about a month ago, but it suddenly disappeared from my laptop (it's supposed to pop up every time I start the AA1, as the settings were 'auto start') and I can't download it again as it keeps saying that "this program is corrupt" or something similar. WHAT TO DO? I'm sitting in the library and feel sorry both for myself and for other ppl because of the extremely loud fan.

    Please help me!
    Julia
