    It lets you decide at what temperature the fan starts and stops . . useful if you find the mosquito sound of the whirring fan annoying

    I just want to know what is the safe setting for the fan control.

    I have it set as default Fan Off 68C and Fan On 70C
    Is that a safe operating setting because I don't want to burn my new netbook. At the above settings, the area by the touchpad gets uncomfortably hot. :?

    thx

    I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but if it's uncomfortably hot it's too hot. I run mine at 55/60C which is probably conservative. In many years of dealing with electronics I've found that even when everything is within the design parameters, cooler is better than hotter. Components are just less stressed that way.

    Hello everyone!
    I'd like to present you my program for fan control Smart Fan 1.16.
    Program have a lot of different capabilities. There it is:
    1. Fan speed controls
    2. 8+ different fan speeds
    3. OSD (On Screesn Display)
    4. Hot keys for on/off WiFi. Lan, Web Camera and other harware
    5. HDD temp monitoring
    6. And many many others

    You can download it here: SmartFan.1.16.zip
    And here you can see some screen shots (but text is on Russian) http://smartfan.aspireone.com.ua/2009/0 ... rt-fan-116
    Program is totally free.
    if you want to use this program with Windows XP you must set up in options.ini file Use_Alternate_Control =0, with Windows Vista or Windows 7 Use_Alternate_Control must be 1.
    If you are using Aspire One 110 with SSD you must change values in options.ini file section [Modes] this way:
    [Modes]
    Auto =0×00
    Stop =0xCF
    Very_Slow =0xC9
    Slow =0×04
    Medium =0×9F
    High =0×07
    Very_High =0×68
    Supreme =0×70

    If you have questions about my program write me [email protected]

    P.S. Sorry for my bad English :oops:

    Very nice program, thanks for that :D

    The fan settings don't work for me, though.
    I've tested all hex values and these are the results:

    A110l SSD version, XP SP3, Bios 3305
    [Modes]
    Auto=0x00
    Stop=0xCF
    Extremely_Slow=0x99
    Very_Slow=0xB6
    Slow=0xBA
    Medium=0x8B
    High=0x05
    Very_High=0x23
    Supreme=0x22

    Switching resolution doesn't work correctly, only 800x600 and 1024x600 are available.
    Maybe it's because of the graphics adaptor device ID, it's 27AE on my AAO.

    @PavelD

    I love the battery bar :D
    I've configured it to be at the top of the screen in 'sky blue'. It's very handy and the best thing is, that it is visible when using full screen Firefox, too :)

    Edit:
    BTW, I think your program is worth a new thread ;)

    A tip for those using Smart Fan:
    In the Configuration menu you can set the the different speeds 5 degrees apart, but you can adjust them with every intermediate value you like by hand in options.ini
    This is what I use at the moment:
    Custom="Stop, Slow, 63, Medium, 66, High, 69, Very_High, 72, Supreme, 75"

    @PavelD

    I think it would be a good idea to implement a smoothing feature for temperature readings that helps to filter random misreadings of the temperature sensor. Sometimes the sensor gives wrong results, jumping several degrees, switching on/off the fan.

    I don't know if you have heard of the new Intel Atom N280 with the GN40 chipset or you're trying to tell me something obvious I should have known already? Please spill the beans if that's the case. :)

    I didn't know that GN40 netbooks are available to buy right now :shock: I thought every n280 netbook had the old 945 chipset inside. I thought Asus 1004DN would be the first GN40 netbook.

    How does it perform? I'm especially interested in gaming performance. Does it run Doom3, Quake4 and Half-Life2 at reasonable speed?

    Mali, I can't answer those questions for you, I'm afraid, since I never measured my older model's (110L) power consumption, and I don't use my netbook for games. Hopefully, someone else can answer you.

    I'm still curious though as to whether a fan control app has been made for newer Intel Atom N280 processors with the aforementioned chipset. The fan is quite quiet without any fan control application (more so under XP than any Linux I've tried), but if someone knows of an app for either the Windows or Linux platform that'd be swell.

    I'm having weird problems with this a1ctl thing and it's really starting to piss me off since it's probably the only fan control software that is useful.

    For no apparent reason, mine keeps locking up my entire laptop.

    So first, my taskbar will stop responding, so when I open up task manager it says that a1ctl is not responding. So I try to end the task which it doesn't. I try to force ending the task and it doesn't and it just stays there. And I have to bloody frickin' shut the computer down and reboot.

    Any ideas?

    sorry for my english!
    with bios 3309 or 3310, my A110L restarts after a few minutes with any fan control's programs (aa1fancontroll, a1ctl, smartfan, aspire one temp).
    With bios 3305 no problem!
    anyone know why?

    Guys, nice software, but don't use it if you have a D250 model. The D250 runs much cooler than the other models (idle temp is about 38C and load temps max out at about 52C), and the temperature range needs to be adjusted for D250 models. When I installed it my temps maxxed out. I couldn't find an .ini configuration file to adjust values so I just uninstalled it. Really though, if you have a D250, you shouldn't have temperature problems.

    Dear friend, as I told you before this software is developed only for Acer Aspire one, you can not use it on other machines, otherwise this can damage your hardware!!!
    regards!

    PS
    BTW its run great on my new windows7 ultimate! :D :D :D
