thanks! works like a charm! But I was also wondering if it is possible to add a max fan speed option.. sometimes the poor one gets a bit hot, and I could use the hated fan.

i just picked up 2 acer one *again* and first turn it on and as i expected. *fan* goes on..

then i downloaded the software and installed .. bam.. fan goes off...^^

Thank you so much for this program..

as other stated.. it would be really fun to control the fan control.. i should say.. set the threadhold with different fan speed.

    Thanks.. again..

OP, I get constant events logged while this program is running. Any idea what is causing it?

"The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( ACPIEC ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: \Device\ACPIEC."

Link to thread I started before I realized they were connected.

    Ralf, nice work!

Some people suggested more buttons - I would do the same: Some of us seem to have high rpm fan speeds, others not, when the fan kicks in. A really simple feature would be to let the user set the fan speed - should not this be possible with the 0x55 register? it would be another number ans two more buttons, yes, but this would make a lot og people (including me) very happy. Why? Because when I put some load on my netbook now, the fan spins up every ten seconds for three seconds and sounds like a litte hairdryer when it does so. Setting a lower fan rpm would fix this.

Why not let the user define some interemediate step with RPM1 at T1 (and some higher reserve RPM2 at T2)?
If buttons matter why not an expert mode where one can better customize the rpm per temp?

Also, on windows shutdown I get the fan spin up - probably because your program sets the fan back to automatic when in terminates? Could you change that?

But again, nice work! I was going nuts because of the fan noise...

i'm running coretemp, and the cpu temps are way different than the one that shows in your program
    yours: 49c
    coretemp: 69c

i've used coretemp for a long time and i trust its temps vs yours, then again maybe coretemp doesnt know atom cpu, but i'm very skeptical about your readings

also, i'm on windows classic theme, and your program's font does not display unless i'm in another theme (cpu/fan temp and 0.9 beta does not appear)

edit: now i cant tell if the fans are spinning or on so low that i cant hear it
though i do hear some spinning noises, i'm sure that's from the hhd

For what it's worth, I'm having the problem with the fan control buttons being all white and unreadable too.

the issue of the visualization of the temps is resolved using the windowsxp style for the visualization of the start bar, buttons, windows ecc..
i notice that the fan when active rotates at very very low rpm.
    is it normal?
    bye

I've also different temperatures shown me by different programs

    aa1 fan control = 63°
    core temp = 80°
    everest ultimate = 55°

and my fan is doing noises like a starting jet if I turn off my aa1. and I also have white fields where some informations should be...

another point is a short start (only for a second) of the fan but the activation temp isn't achieved

but the rest is brilliant. no noise and the battery runtime gets up. I guess something between 15 - 25 %

is this really safe then??? Since core temp is showing such high numbers, I'll stick with the noisy fan until we get some proper answers; so far all I see in this thread is questions...

well, i believe temp reading is pretty accurate since, comparing to noisy fan and now with this program. i don't feel any difference in hotness/heat when i put it on my lab.

fan does kick in at the temp i set. (it is super quite/soft but when i am in a quiet room i hear it on/off)

whited out screen can be easily resolved by restarting , i think this is related to shared video ram..

i really like this program. i made me come back to A1 while thininkg to purchase Lenovo s10. (just cancelled the pre order)

    It's a awesome software.
However, I want to ask that whether it can be used for other computer model.

I have a acer aspire 3000. it is old and the fan is LOUD.
    thanks

I'm actually questioning the accuracy of CoreTemp in this case, first of all, the Atom CPU is not based on the Core architecture so it's not supported by this program, it reads the CPU as Z520 Silverthrone. Second, it seems to me that no matter how cool the laptop is, it always shows between 78 and 80 degree C.

    @ desperator

which bios verson do you have?

    @ ATLien

this Problem of different Temperatures given by different programs isn't that new. and the lower the temp is the lower is the difference.

and is it safe? I'm not sure, but in my opinion the hardware has some safety functions and if the cpu is too hot the system automatically shuts down.

    @ dreamym5

I feel a difference in the heat of my aa1. it is noticeable warmer. and by restarting neither the aa1 fan control nor the system this white area problem isn't resolved.

    @ ruysnr

the reduce noise there are tons of programs. You should use google. I get good results with such programs where you can reduce the cpu voltage.

    @ hmmwv

where is the problem? reading out "the CPU as Z520 Silverthrone" means you have an atom with 1.33GHz. Or do you don't have 1.33GHz?
And the the temp scale changes from 35° to 80°.
And I tried Core temp on my centrino laptop (Centrino M 725) and get the message "This is not a core cpu..."
On the Homepage of Core Temp they especiallly say that core temp works with the atom...

after uninstallig this TVicPortinstall everest ultimate couldn't read out any temperature. so core temp is the sole program that read out temp without any "help" (the sole of these programs I tried)

How do I check the BIOS version? Press some key at boottime? I have WinXP running.

I also read that the pgm does not work with the newest bios :-(
