    Thanks a bomb Ralf!!!

You fixed all problems I got and now I'm VERY pleased.

I also get this error messages in the system event monitor. but they don't disturb me at all. Nevertheless, I would be glad to get rid of them.

    Hello everyone.
I've been doing tests and I found the following:
    Software speed fan: 50 ° C
    AA1FanControl: 59 ° C

There is a lot of difference, and SpeedFan is very reliable. Any explanation?
Thank you all for this forum!

Speedfan is reporting the ACPI temperature, not the CPU temperature.
    AA1FanControl temperature is more accurate.
In this case the CPU itself is a lot hotter than the mother board. Seems quite reasonable.

You can confirm this using CPUID Hardware Monitor software.

How did you found the port number for reading temperature / controlling fan?

it seems that the windows ports for this are different from the one found on linux.

I found that the port that control the fan on windows is the 0x62, wheras on linux it is the 0x55.

Can you tell me which port you are using to read the temperature on windows, I did not found it :/

    thanks

Running the AA1fancontrol software doesn't seem to increase battery life.

I ran a test using batterymark2004. Results were very close, in fact, less battery life was gotten using the AA1control software.
I tested using dimmest screen settings, wifi on, no other usb device attached. I'm running stock xp home sp3. I have the stock AA1 1G, 120G XP notebook with no mods.

    Test results shows
2:24 with fan control set to be on at 70C, CPU was at ~60C
2:32 without fan control, fan running full time, cpu was at ~50C

As you can see run time was longer with the fan on.
    Speculations on the unexpected results.
    1) My battery is new, I might not have cycled my battery enough to get it to it's max capacity yet. The without fan control test was done after the test with fan control. My battery might have gained more capacity from 1st test.
    2) The test with fan control has the CPU and whole system at the hotter temperature, this could make the system draw more standby power.(higher leakage power due to higher temperature)
    3) The fan control program 1.0beta constantly writes error messages to the hard drive, these added hard drive writing activity could have used up more power.
    4) combination of some or all of the above

It would be great if someone else can run the benchmark to see what they get. You can get the batterymark software here:
    http://xtreview.com/id-431-v-ZD-BWS-bat ... k-2004.htm

If the error log problem can be fix, it should save some power. Maybe we can have a release 1.1 with the fix?

    ----------
I repeated batterymark test using aa1fancontrol on, and this time I got 2:42
I think this is showing that my battery really hasn't been cycled enough times to reach max capacity yet.
However, it still points to aa1fancontrol not contributing to more battery runtime, since in all of the 3 tests that I ran the resutls are all very close, and it's just increasing run time as I keep doing these test.
I would be great if someone has a battery pack that's go though at least 10 full charge/discharge cycles to do the test to really confirm that turning off the fan using aa1fancontrol doesn't increase battery run time.
BTW, my battery pack is a 2400mah pack.
I do want to add that I still find the aa1fancontrol useful, as I don't like the fan sound, so having it turn on the fan only when needed is still very useful.

MY question is regarding "Autostart On/Off"

    a) What does this actually do?

    b) If it says "Autostart on" ...does this mean that Autostart is ON

    OR

that Autostart is off, but to click on autostart to turn it on

    Just wondering

The program works fine for me. The fan engages when it reaches the set temperature I put it in.

The only gripe I have with it, is the colour of the icon in the system tray. I'm using WinXP and the classic desktop theme so everything is grey. I can barely just make out the lime green icon.

@green_guy: The Autostart option allows Windows to automatically start the AA1FanControl.exe when Windows starts.

When it says "Autostart OFF", it means that Autostart is currently disabled. If you click the button, it changes to "Autostart ON", and will auto-start with Windows.

    r U know ?

AA1FanControl.exe show and calculate less temperatures than exist !!!!! - 20 Degress!!!!!

is critical !!! when CPU is 80"C - AA1FanControl.exe show and calculate as 60"C

i test it whith EVEREST PRO !!! - i trust it!

Even if it has 80°C it is 10°C below TJunction.. also i don't trust everest, cause it never shows the right temperatures.

    Hi, first post here.
I wanted to mention that while the CPU and most of the components on a laptop can function well at 90C for a long time, the battery (lithium ion) can NOT.
The hotter the battery gets, the more it degrades. Even 40C is too much for it, ideally it should be as cool as possible. More information and some temperature tables here: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
So because of that, I think you should let the fan do its job so long as the noise is not too annoying, and even so, you should just decrease the RPM rather than turn it off.

This software is a godsend... Only had the Aspire One for a week and the fan was driving me insane. Now with this software I can control when the annoying whine starts.

Its great software and I want your babies lol... On a side not though I agree with a few others that it could do with a medium fan setting allowing the fan to come on at a medium speed when the machine reaches a set temp.

On the whole much needed software that solves a design flaw in the Aspire One.

    Keep up the good work.

that's the problem, no one figured out how to decrease rpm, it's just on/off apparently

What is Acer's position about this issue? Did somebody ask Acer for a solution?
