    Right! but a small fan will never cool down a battery nor it's his purpose, so I'm cool with that :D
    And if you want to play a > 2h movie you'll be thanking this tool every time. The summer is hot here in portugal and I can still be under 65ºC whem whatching a movie! :cool:

    Someday I'll post the difference in minutes (battery life) with and without this tool.

    The fan won't cool the battery, but it will cool the rest of the system. If the system reaches 80C, part of the heat will go to the battery as well, shortening its life.

    I bought 2 Ones 6 days ago. XP 1gb RAM 120 hdd 3 cell. I'll be returning one of them as its fan was so noisy compared to the other One and to a bigger tablet pc for that matter. The one I'm keeping is so much quiter and cooler too. There is definitely a fan issue hardware wise. In fact it got progressively worse for the noisy one, the sound became more pronounced and you could tell that the fan was straining. You could just tell that there's something wrong in the way it sounded esp. because I had another one to compare with.

    This software definitely works, the only way I silenced the defective fan was by using fancontrol ( there was no need to use it on the silent one ). Thus however I'd be careful using this software, it might be silencing a defective fan that should be addressed.

    I also think there is a hardware failure. Mine is very noisy and I am also thinking about returning it... the fancontrol software works fine, but if the unit is defective, should be fixed, right?

    Did anyone write to ACER asking for a solution?

    I am a bit afraid to use this software. Could anything go wrong if I use the wrong settings by accident ? :roll:
    Thanks,
    Gvido

    EDIT: P.S. I just sent an e-mail to Acer UK and I hope I get a reply with a solution soon enough!

    Here's the reason why Vista runs cooler than XP (and any other OS for that matter)
    http://mjg59.livejournal.com/96270.html

    The BIOS sets the ACPI differently according to the OSI...

    Sorry, didn't do any recording of the difference. I returned the defective unit yesterday. Not at all scientific but if your fan is constantly on and you can hear its sound over the din of your TV (at normal volume) or even fridge at 5 to 6 feet distance at night, then you might have a defective fan. You can also compare it with another laptop's fan volume.

    Is it proven that the fan is mechanically defective? Or it is just noisy? I would like to avoid sending the acer back, I just put XP on it, I am very happy :(

    I bought two, both are horribly noisy. Talked to a friend, and he reports the same thing on both of his (he bought a Linux one and then later a Windows one for the larger storage). If it is a mechanical issue it seems to be very very common. Almost all the reviews I've found mentions it as well. It's loud enough to be useless in a meeting or classroom.

    It wouldn't be as much of an issue if it didn't run all the bloody time as it does in XP with latest BIOS. Based on the fan control measurements it turns on at below 40c. That can't possibly be necessary. Considering the pervasiveness of the issue, Acer should offer a free fan replacement for all customers if you ask me. I guess I should give them a call and check. They're located just a five minute drive away from where I work.

    hi, here a demo of my fan sound, i think that is normal... i did it, turning off Fancontrol. upload yours records. Thankyou

    http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=C2OLN4FQ --> Acer Aspire One 150 AB ( 120 Gb HDD and 1 Gb of Ram )

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S57CAWR5 --> Acer Aspire 5634 WLMi

    I believe that the difference is not so big, and can say that my laptop is so silent (compared with others). it is only that the management of the fan in Aspire one is very bad. Let's hope that it is solved by future Bios

    I listened to your recording. Same noise here. Very recognisable.I have a blue 150 (120GB HDD,1GB Mem, Came with Linpus but installed XP, standard Bios is the v3114).

    So after going crazy because of the fan-sound i installed the AA1Fancontrol software. Works for me. The temperature stays between 53 and 59 ° C when surfing/mailing and doing the basic stuff i wanted to use it for and why i bought it. Goes a bit higher when viewing WMV or Youtube movies. At the moment i let the fan go on at 70 degrees C which basicly almost never happens.

    I love my ONE , it feels as if it's basicly the laptop i was looking for all my life. And because of the nice price tag, i care less if it 'll get scrached, dented, broken or if by turning off the fan the CPU burn's out in a couple of months. I'll probably by a new one in six months anyway when the new model gets out. So AA1FanControl stops my whining about the FAN-Noise. Now i only have to wait for a solution for the screen flickering at low screen-light. Oh yeah, i got that fault too on my ONE. at the moment i use the graphic driver to set the screen as dimmed as i can software-wise. But i wish i could set the screen more darker and without any flicker.

    But i try not to complain to much ... perfection is so hard to find these days, and certainly with netbooks that cost a fraction of the first notebook i ever purchased.

    Totally in agreement with you, probably be going to change your laptop into new other one, and discover that this one has another fault of manufacture, like dead pixels or something for the style. Anyways i have been comparing it with the noise of my laptop (Acer Aspire 5630), and the difference is small. I believe that the problem resides in the performance of the fan. never stop and always are on.

    Thank you for listen. see ya!

    That is the same sound of the unit that I returned. The one I kept doesn't make that loud of a noise even with multiple programs on.

    Thank you all. I think I'm lucky then :)
    Maybe my AAO is perfect :D

    I'm sorry to let you know that, as time goes by, it will only get worse. Why? I think dust is the reason :?

    The fan control program works well, but, I get the following error in Event Viewer when I use it:

    "\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware returned data when none was requested. This may indicate that the BIOS is incorectly trying to access the EC without syncronizing with the OS. The data is being ignored."

    Apparently this error is caused when a program polls the BIOS and extra information is returned. I am getting this error, which does not affect system operation, about once every 4 seconds.

    Does anyone else get this error:?:

    BTW, apologies if this has been posted before, but, I did try a search first.
