I JUST got my Aspire One and I haven't been able to use it yet. When I turned it on, it started to load XP then made a click noise and shut off. I think I've narrowed the problem down to the fan. Should I be hearing it as soon as I turn it on? Because it's completely silent, not even working. I just can't believe my luck. Does anyone have any solutions or should I just get ready to send it back?

Now I don't know what to think. I downloaded the AA1FanControl program and waited until later to try again (it was REALLY hot in my room). Now it's been up and running for a couple hours, but I still can't hear the fan very well. It's barely pushing out warm air when I put my hand up to it. It definitely spins up when it passes the threshold I assigned, but it's just not very loud. I would rather have it super loud than fry the insides.

    I have two questions:
    1. How loud should the fan be? Is the fan supposed to be very audible?

2.Are any BIOS versions known to cause fan issues or to be better for the fan?

    Newbie here
Well from yesterday i have exactly the same issue with my ZG5 A150X.
Seems to turn on but after of 30-40 secs of activity makes a clicking sound and then deads.
Note it dosnt seem to work the fan either.
Maybe is a temp protection how can i alter this before using warranty?
    Using latest 3309 bios.

    Greetings to everybody

Using Linux? I use this little perl script to set the fan at 100% max speed:

    Code:
    perl -e 'use POSIX; $i=IOPORTS; sysopen($i,"/dev/port",O_RDWR); sub i{sysseek $i,$_[0],0; sysread $i,$res,1; return unpack("C",$res)} sub o{sysseek $i,$_[1],0; syswrite $i,pack("C",$_[0]),1} sub w{$k=0; while((i($_[0])&0x02)&&($k<100)){sleep(0.01); $k++} return -($k==100)} sub e{o(0x81,0x66); if(!w(0x66)){o($_[0],0x62)} if(!w(0x66)){o($_[1],0x62)}} e(0x55,0x21); close($i);'

Now the problem reverted to even worst, now my machine has blank screen and power led just stays constand on.
On the other hand is the fan is working now  .
I used al methods that several users unbrick it succesfully but for me it just dosnt work.
In the supposed FN+ESC recovery method the power led just blinking for hours, dosnt flash correctly and then from beginning again
I use Win XP but dosnt matter as it dosnt post.
    Thanks for replying though

I have had my Aspire One A150 for about 4 months. It has worked fine. But now when I tired to start it, EXACTLY same problem, it just shuts down after about 30-40 seconds. I call RMA and they said I should send it in. Im happy I didnt buy extra RAM, bcos of waranty broken. But I will return what they say after I sent it in.

I use the windows xp version with 160GB HDD.

If anyone gets more information about this problem, please post it here...

I got my computer back today, after only 1 day at acers service point. The problem was my HDD, which was broken. i got a new one now and it works like a charm... Very good and fast service from Acer, thank you.

The only problem was that I bought my computer in sweden, and when they repaired it in norway, where I live nowdays, I could only choose between norwegian, danish and english language, but not swedish. And acer wants 40$ for the swedish version on cd because they dont have that version in norway... That is really really bad!
