    i just installed ubuntu 8.0.4.
    i updated and upgraded it...
    i restarted.
    i now get this message:

kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init

    or

    fatal error in interrupt.

Unfortunately, the latest kernel update to Hardy 8.04 breaks Ubuntu on the Aspire One, causing a kernel panic. You can read about it here and here. Until Ubuntu fixes it, you can boot up under the old kernel (the one installed before you updated everything) by hitting escape to see the grub menu when you begin the boot process and choosing the older kernel. You can also modify the grub menu so that for now it will automatically choose the older kernel.

    Best regards,

    Tom

    thanks.
it seemed to happen every time i used:

    sudo upgrade

    or

    sudo update.

can you give me some step by step instructions?
    actually...
    ill work it out.

    i reinstalled ubuntu twice now.
i can't get the wifi working either.
i tried both methods on the ubuntu help page.
