Hmm I'm having some problems now...

I realised my bat file wasn't working correctly - it was enabling the write filter, but the directories to leave alone weren't working, so I edited the bat file... cmd prompt accepted everything nicely, but I get a blue screen when Windows logs me in.

I have to go into safe mode, disable fbwf, and put up with a hilariously slow AAO. And now, no matter what, I get a blue screen of death when I enable FBWF. Any suggestions what I can do?

    fbwfmgr /enable
    fbwfmgr /addvolume c:
    fbwfmgr /setthreshold 512

And this is the line (I have a few of these) that messed it all up:
    fbwfmgr /addexclusion c: "\Program Files\Google"

I've tried removing all the files copied into system32, fbwf.cfg from c:\, and the values in the registry and starting again, but still get the blue screen when it's enabled.
EDIT: I just did this last bit again, deleting and restarting the whole lot, and it's working now - only I didn't add the exclusions.... I don't think I want to try now I've finally got it back working!

Try and go into safe mode and fbwfmgr /disable

at least you should be able to get into the OS and maybe find out what went wrong. I still can't add folders for it to ignore, as soon as I do, I get a blue screen too.

hi there, i got model 110 with 8gb ssd drive & 1gb ram, after installing with xpsp3 it's very slow, follow this thread to install fbwf with 256mb threshold & it really speed up like hell, thx! :D

however now i got a problem then it keeps saying "low disk space on c:" then i found a very strange problem, from computer management's disk management, it said disk0 is 7.51GB, however the fat32 c: only with 3.68GB, so where the missing space gone?

any solution to fix it?

    many thx!

p.s. further tested that after restore from ghost, before fbwf c: is 7.5GB with about 3GB free space, after re-deploy fbwf c: back to 3.7GB with 400MB free space; then after running "fbwfmgr /disable" & reboot c: back to 7.5GB with about 3GB free space.... wondering if this is the normal behaviour of fbwf? :(

    Greetings!

I have that exact same problem, hard disk C: has been splitted in half and the XP is complaining about insufficient space. In addition: when I try to remove directories or uninstall programs, the free space does NOT seem to increase. The weirdest part however is this: after reboot the same old programs and directories have got back!! This is even though I have deleted files/folders and removed them from Recycle bin!

    Appreciate any help.

edit: Have to admit; otherwise my A110 with XP on FBWF works like a thunder!! Thanks for that.

Your space is not lost. Its a drawback of fbwf.
Imagine what it does: It buffers all write to the 256 MB RAM you reserved.. If the 256 MB are used up the disk is full (from Windows point of view).
So when fbwf is active your disk has the following space:

    used space + reserved buffer

    @Mersault:
read the following and you may understand why the things you delete when fbwf is active will not be deleted from disk. it is simply not possible when fbwf is active

remoh: Thanks for the link. It seems like I didn't quite get the real meaning of FBWF ;) - now I understand that there isn't happening any disk writing on the protected drive.

I first made two .bat-files to enable/disable FBWF. But now I think I'll start using the script that was included in the page you posted.

    Big thanks! ;)

for those who aint quite so technical this features basicly just a ramdrive, it uses your available ram (which is fast) as a hard drive, but since ram is volitile memory it loses all data when no power is going through it hence the lack of ability to hold data after a reboot etc, theirs been ramdrive abilty in windows for years now (since old msdos actually) so its nothing new just microsofts implementation of it is far better now

    hi

i've a problem with the fbwf

i installed it and did everything exactly as it in the how-to stands and the displayconfig says:
    current session:disabled
    next session:enabled

my problem is that the text doesn't change after a reboot, and i'm not able to see any speed up of the ssd

i can see the fbwf in driverview and there is an config file on c: with 4kb, i tried to reinstall fbwf several times but it didn't change

anyone an idea what i'm doing wrong?

    (sorry for my english)

    hey juergen,

one question: how much ram do you have? if you only have the preinstalled 512 then there wont be much for your system to work with... maybe thats why your computer disables the shared ram?

if this is not the case, please try the following:

create a new text document (with editor not word(-pad) etc..)

it should contain(starting below the line):
("*****" stands for your anti virus programm: mine is "\Programme\Alwil Software\Avast4" !!! All including the " for indicating a relative path!!!
    ________

    @echo off

    fbwfmgr /enable
    fbwfmgr /addvolume C:
    fbwfmgr /setthreshold 300
    fbwfmgr /addexclusion c: "*****"

    echo Alles in Ordnung?

    pause

    ______________

try if this will help... if it wont well find a way... but make shure, your ram realy works and is above 1 gb!

hi all, i am attempting to enable the fbwfmgr in cmd promt but gives me this error:
"this application has failed to start because FLTLIB.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

EDIT: I was able to download the missing file: Filename: fltlib.dll
    Version: 5.1.2600.2180.
when I attempt again I get this new error:
FbwfMgr: Unable to communication with the file-based write filter.

    any suggestions for a solution??

    I have 1.5 gig ram
    using a TinyXP image backup
Followed all the steps from Post #1

    Please help! Thank you

    hey,

sry, but I can't help you in this case. I guess, it is due to services beeing "stripped" from the xp that make communication impossible.

you could try to reinstall xp sp2 - that would rework your "filter" problems - concerning fltlib.dll and the following. well, I know it's a pain in the ass - but I think this should fix the problem.

I must tell after using fbwf, the one has really speeded up like hell, wow!
But I have some silly questions:
1- My first question is about the the shutdown script in the link http://aaowiki.de/howto:fbwf_en.
First of all ,should I change the volune name from d: to e:, since I have only drive e: as my sd card?
Second, should I include everything on the script like expalanatory sentences like "If this file exists the script stops and no commits are made"?
Third, should I exclude this line:

If this file exists the script stops and no commits are made
    nocommitfile = "d:\fbwf\nocommiton.txt"

while creating the script f I want it to save files on disk? And will I add it everytime when I want no files to be saved?

2- I have 1gb ram and set a threshold of 200mb. Drive c: seems like having 194mb free space when windows starts. Will it be a problem or should I set a lower threshold?

Excuse me for long and confused questions. Thanks in advance.
