Installing F11 from a live cd (or usb stick) will overwrite the partition into which it is installed, wiping whatever was there. If there's stuff I want to keep, I put it on a separate partition that doesn't get touched by the F11 installation. In practice, this means I keep my data but have to reinstall the programs. HTH

From my experience, all the hardware that works with (what will be) Fedora 11 also works with the various Ubuntu 9.04 variants and vice-versa.

I don't think xubuntu is specifically built for netbooks. It uses XFCE which is more lighweight than a Gnome or a KDE.
I think you should look for the distributions you like more by considering the differences. For example yum againt apt, ...
    Then XFCE is always available...

I think this is the actually the right reason to choose a distro - select one that supports the software you want to use.

Xubuntu is just Ubuntu with the XFCE desktop instead of GNOME. If you want that interface and already have Ubuntu installed, just install the XFCE components. You can always delete the GNOME bits that XFCE doesn't need once you have XFCE up and running.

never mind i now have xubuntu installed and it works perfectly, better even

linpus lite had a tendency to mess around -.-, like programs kept opening and closing for no reason
