I installed recently Fedora11 through a USB stick. Everything from firefox over thunderbird to mp3 player works fine and I can view and edit my pictures.
I wanted to use now the AAO as MIDI player and installed via "ADD/remove software" several music packages FRINIKA, Pianobooster,Rosegarden, ZynAddSubFX, Linux MultiMedia Studio. Except Pianobooster none of them worked straight away; with all others I got error and bug messages mostly to do with ALSA which seems not to be correctly installed under Fedora11 for this packages. Wit some workaround I got at least some of the packages to show the initial screen. But I could not get any tone out of the programmes and, none of them recognised my USB keybord UMX49 from Behringer. .
Is there anybody who could give me a hint what I have to do ?

It can e tricky to get multimedia in Fedora, although it is better now then in the past.

Yes, it can seem to vary application-by-application with some of these applications and sometimes you need to try PulseAudio, ALSA, or OSS

If you are looking to do multimedia specific tasks consider a distro specific to multimedia - Ubuntu Studio comes to mind, although there are others.

Does your keyboard work in other Linux Distros ?

Well, in the meantime I managed to get my keyboard connected via aconnect with fluidsynth and can hear what I am playing.
This link helped a lot in getting that accomplished: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/printthread.php?t=192384
There are special advices for our CPU Intel Atom.
However, I have still problems in getting full use of the keyboard eg to use it with other instruments than piano.
I downloaded soundfonts and started fluidsynth with those fonts but until now it did not work. But I am on it.
I played also with rosegarden but no success in extending the number of instruments.

I any case I would like to use the soft synthesizer ZynaddsubFx follwoing the advice of the above link not using "jack", which seems not appropriate for our AAO but with "aconnect". I managed to connect my keyboard to it. But still I do not hear any sound. It seems that the connection from the softsynth to the audio system of the AAO is not properly established. Again I tried a lot with aconnect but the connection of channel 129(for ZynaddsubFx) to the system audio system (chanel 0) was not permitted.
    ?????????
    Any suggestions
