Is there an easy way to figure out what names to use in group-app.xml for applications. I finally figured out that I neded Gnome in gnome-sol to get AisleRiot Solitaire on the desktop. Now I am struggling with getting Gimp on the desktop. I am sure other names will be a problem too... So is there an easy way to find the magic names that will work?

I wanted to answer: you can use the command 'apropos' for that.
But that depends on the 'man pages', the manuals, but they are not installed, afaik.
So you might install these first an then use 'apropos' .....

What you're interested in are the .desktop files. Most of these will be installed in:

    /usr/share/applications

    Open a terminal and do:

    cd /usr/share/applications

Then list them so that you can page through the listing:

    ls -l | more

    Cheers.

i have found the applications folder, but some things seem to have a few different names when right clicking and selecting properties... for instance, GIMP has GIMP-2.4... i have tried putting that in the group-app.xml but no joy... and tried just GIMP... no joy as well.. similar with Audacity.. puzzled

That is why I suggest looking at the desktop files using the terminal. Then you will see the REAL filenames, rather than how the file manager (Thunar) displays them.

    Cheers.
