    start a terminal window, enter
    Code:
    firefox
If any of your firefoxes starts, it's just a broken .desktop file.
    Post the results.

you can always, right click to bring up the advanced menu, and select web browser, then it will ask you which browser to use, enter ff2, and it will bring up your old firefox, as far as getting the old desktop link to work, I have no idea.

I right clicked, got the advanced menu, and I selected Webbrowser. It immediately gave me firefox (2), without asking anything. The browser icon does not link to the browser.

Well, I was prompted to select a web browser, I entered everything I could think of to get FF3 to work but, no go, so I entered FF2 and bingo at least it its a web bowser, need to keep tinkering to see if I can get FF3 to install and work properly, I will keep you posted if I figure anything out.

i didn't have any troubles installing firefox 3 from this rpm:
    ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/www.pclinuxo ... 7.i586.rpm

download it then double click. it should install properly.

    it runs from /usr/bin/firefox3.real

if you want to make it the default, via terminal
    1. su
    2. mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox2
    3. mv /usr/bin/firefox3.real /usr/bin/firefox

    OR

    2. mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox2
    3. cp /usr/bin/firefox3.real /usr/bin/firefox (to make two copies of the firefox3 script)

Thanks, this was a good method.
I actually installed in such a way. Then I ran the program with Terminal/Run and there firefox3.real
First, it asked for legal acceptance blah blah. Then it asked, if I want to keep FF3 as my default browser. I accepted.

Problem: I still cannot (even after booting) start FF3 from the desktop Browser Icon. I had made earlier an error in trials for installing with terminal commands. I then have to run the program with advanced terminal + Web Browser. HELP needed; how can I define that the Browser Icon would launch and run the FF3, as it earlier made FF2?

There was the question some posts above which is interesting to me as well.

What about FF2 package? Could it be deleted or FF3 uses some part of it?

You can not remove the package or the whole system will go with it. You can remove the files by hand but i wouldn't bother.
And on a slightly unrelated note, you can also use Epiphany/WebKit as an alternative.

    1. alt + f2
    2. sudo thunar /usr/share/applications
    3. right click "Browser" icon > Properties
    4. under Launcher tab, change Command to "/usr/bin/firefox3.real"
    5. close

notice that you can also change the icon via the same steps up to step 3 where you can see the icon button activated. just click it and choose "uncategorized icons" then look for the firefox icon.

    Hello Guys,

    I have a question.
Have correctly install the firefox 3 and add the correct icon of the browser. It works fine.

But now when I click on links from Hotmail, google maps and wikipedia, opens a page blank in firefox.

The same has happened to some of you? As you solve this?

    Thanks for helping
