I'd like to make a recommendation to new users of firefox (and small screens). I have used this extension for ages and ages. i use it for my work pc as well.

This is the Compact Menu 2 add on. It allows you to remove the bar in firefox with the File Edit View... [etc] and instead have a button which gives a drop menu with all the options in it. This saves the space at the top.

Once installed and firefox is restarted, right click on a blank area to the right of Help and select Customise.
This brings up a window with all the different buttons you can add to firefox. (one of the reasons firefox users love it)
Then, drag the button that looks like a small blue planet onto the main window where ever you would like to have it. (i have mine to the right of the searchbar)
    then click Done.
You should notice the bar at the top is now blank. Next right click on it and click on menubar to deselect it and it should be gone. saving you more room for internet.

Tiny menu seems to serve the same purpose.

A general tip for Linpus users, regardless of the application in use: To get even more space, use Alt+F11 to maximize the window hiding the window frame. More tips on maximizing the space on screen here: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1755
