When I try to use Firefox with my AAO it only fills maybe two thirds of the screen making it very difficult to read the wording on the screen. Is there a setting to get it to use the full screen.

Do you mean the Firefox window? If so, maximise it.

If the window is already maximised and you mean the menus, toolbars, etc occupy 1/3 of the screen, there are a number of tricks. I've minimised the clutter on mine, but I'd have to check up on all the things I've done if you want details.

The toolbar and menu fits all the way across the screen, but everything below is narrowed two inches in from each side. So for instance if you're trying to read msnbc.com webpage it makes for reading the news very difficult because the wording is so small.

That's a bit odd. There is normally a sidebar on the left - either Bookmarks or History, but this can be closed in the View menu. I've not seen a blank area on the right. You could try F11, which toggles the toolbars, etc on and off. It should use the whole screen for the content of the web page.

If it's just the text which is the problem, in the View menu you can toggle 'Zoom text only' and then use Ctrl + and Ctrl - to change the size. (With the text toggle off, this zooms the whole webpage.)

Try to start FF in a safety mode. There is a couple of settings (and than you have to save the changes) which revert selected specific settings to default. It worked for me (in a little bit different issue, but there are some similarities).

I think what the OP is expressing here is that everything is SO small on a small screen that he's finally been forced to notice that not all web pages are full width. I just checked msnbc.com, and it appears to be designed for an 800x600 screen, so no, it doesn't fill the Firefox window.

So the cure for this is to hit ctrl+ a time or two until the page expands to fill the screen, AFTER having set view/zoom so that "zoom text only" is NOT checked. In spite of what the menu says, you can reduce a page by ctrl-. ctrl0 brings it back to where it started. This setting sticks for when you go back to that site, too! You can also accomplish the same thing by holding down ctrl and rolling the mouse wheel forward, or by putting two fingers on the touchpad and pulling them away from each other (though I don't find this to be reliable).

This works for some other programs, too than just Firefox.

Push F11 to find out. A lot of stuff floats off the top of the screen when you move the cursor away, just like the auto-hide task bar. The quick bookmark bar disappears, unfortunately, which is why I don't use that mode--can't live without that particular bar, which is where ALL of my bookmarks are, in folders.

    @ teh_cube

Sorry for the non-reply - I've been away for a few days.

The normal menu is collapsed with the Tiny Menu add-on. Then I deleted all the icons I didn't normally use from the toolbars and dragged the address and search fields into the freed space.

I don't use bookmarks much - I find the FF3 memory almost as good, and when I do need a bookmark I use Ctrl-B to open a list. I'm not quite sure what you're asking re tabs - they still appear normally. Ctrl-T opens a new tab, and then click as normal.
