Correct!, current FlashPoint works only for the first fixed disk.

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

I was thinking... Most of us actually tried the FlashPoint in a tweaked Windows version, with all the stuff to minimize the SSD writes. Now with the "dedicated" 24MB to buffer writes, is it worthy to enable again the Prefetch/Disk Cache/etc? Will a fresh Windows install with ONLY FlashPoint installed respond better?

    Cheers

+1, but I don't really care as long as the performance was good with Flashpoint. What am I missing with the

other stuff.... oh yeah, fancy menus blah blah blah.

It's perfect now and I'm not going to mess with it!

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

Took about 30 seconds of my windows boot time, I think (sloppy timer). Also shutdown's faster. Seems to be stable :)

    Good work, keep it up!

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

Ok I dove and tried without backing up, hehe.... Here's my report:

Good: Really did speed up the SSD, noticable speed boost in startup, apps, etc etc... looked really good. The AAO 110 in Win7 is now running very well, that you almost tend to forget it's still on SSD.

BAD: Shutdown went from 60sec to 10sec... like what???!?? I thought this is a good thing. But on reboot Win7 complained it did not start properly. Chose to load win7, and all seems normal... until next boot, same menu came up. Hmmm.... Then after testing, I noticed that my regedit changes and some stuff I did were not saved. Seems like the flashpoint has not flushed it's contents to the SSD, reason for the uber quick shutdown. Grrrr! And doing scandisk shows the C: has errors. Again, I'm assuming the cache did not flush on shutdown. Too bad it's still not Win7 compatible. :(

But still, you guys have stumbled on something that can really help improve the SSD speed. Keep up the good work guys. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will go on and work on Win7 next time. :)

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

Back in the mists of this thread I was one of those whose computer crashed badly using this app, so understandably I was reluctant to try again with a slightly improved version. But heck I'm glad I did! The difference is simply phenomenal. With a very heavy version of XP Pro + SP3 plus updates plus serious stuff like the new CorelDraw, my startup time went from a painful 3 minutes to just over 1, and shutdown is just 30 seconds. Admittedly it also helped, I suspect, defragging the SDD once its configuration was set, and especially (using PerfectDisk which allows this) doing a System File Defrag. CCleaner, recommended several times elsewhere in this forum, also cleaned things up nicely.

Using DriveGleam (a nice little freebie which replicates the flashing LED drive-activity light but on your Taskbar, and more accurately), it is very obvious my manic writes are a thing of the past -- which also has to be good for the life of the very finite SSD.

Thanks again to the developers of FlashPoint, and let's hope they go on to improve it still further!

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

    wow!
    amazing improvement,
i installed beta 2 on the acer aspire one a110 8gb ssd win xp pro
    so much faster!
no more crashes or lock ups or freezes. runs as if it was using a normal high speed hard drive.
    perfect.
boot time to desktop is so much faster and oppening applications is so fast.
i was going to upgrade to a 1.8" zif hdd from an ipod but now theres no point.
anybody with an 8gb ssd on windows xp i recommend this so much.
oh and also, i have my page file turned off, because i have 1.5gb of ram.

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

New beta3 version is now available.
The write buffer is increased from 24Mbytes to 32Mbytes, and we are expecting better reliability.
Please, visit and try the new version.

    HELP!

By the instructions it says to replace Diskfp.sys. This does not exist on my system. How do I install? I see no way to install it.

    RTFM! In "Readme.txt" it says:

    * Install
    - Click included INF file, and choose install.
You need to reboot your system.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: FlashPoint: SSD accelerator

I have not noticed any major change in shutdown time (1.5G RAM).

Only positives to report. Zero problems.

    Fantastic work!!!
