I've been told that I need to format it to Fat32 during installing XP
how much of a performance difference is gonna be between NTFS and FAT32?

Not sure on difference in performance but if you have the 120gb version you will have to use NTFS anyway. But I cant say Ive ever seen any significant difference between FAT(32) and NTFS

On the SDdrive NTFS would be far, far slower than FAT32. NTFS will also reduce its lifespan due to the frequent rewrites.

On the other hand, installing an OS like Windows on a filesystem with no access control is the primary reason why the Internet is a festering pool of viruses and spyware.

One should use NTFS for reasons of social responsibility, if for nothing else :)

Exactly where did you read that if you have a 120Gb (or any large HDD for that matter) that you must use NTFS?

I've got the 120Gb split up into several partitions and it's quite happily storing linux, FAT32 and NTFS partitions.

yes, so I tried both while waiting for answers, after the formating, the xp installation process took almost twice as long under ntfs

in a word, BIG!!!! Since NTFS redundancy will make lots of small writes even during READ ONLY activies, this drastically slows down our AAO SSD version, since the Achilles heal of it is the super slow writes on the SSD. So your only option is FAT32, and nothing else.
