If you want Performance and Speed, go with HDD, (in the AAO)
If you want Durability and Silence, go with SSD. (in the AAO)

I will be using XP and WILL NOT be moving to Win7.

Is what I think correct? Just doing last-minute research.

Well.. talking about noise issue. The HDD is almost inaudiable (with exception of clicking noise once in a while). The CPU fan is much louder than the HDD. SO if you don't use a fan control software, the noise generated by HDD and SSD will pretty much be the same.

The HDD version is pretty duable too. You won't break the HDD unless you slam in on the ground and breaking almost everything along with it. The casing, battery and the screen are much easier to break than the HDD. So durability isn't an issue for both the SSD and HDD version of AAO.

If you want better battery life and cheaper product, get the SSD version. if you want performance and more storage with a highier price tag, get the HDD version.

Hi!, I am using the 8G SSD, I will choose SSD for notebooks, because I may use it on transportation such as bus, vibration on transportation are not likely to damage the HD, but I don't think always use it under this situation, the HDD will not be durable! However, HDD has much larger capacity an much cheaper, so, you need to keep a balance on these factors! :)

IMO, if you are going to be running xp or any other windows, the ssd will be very slow. I upgraded my 8 gig ssd with a 1.8 inch 30 gig zif hdd and the difference is amazing. in terms of damage, you will break the case before you break the hdd. small form factor hdd are a more tough than regular 3.5 inch hdd.

How did you connect the 30 gig ZIF drive ?? Do you have a source for adapters to fit the SSD slot ? Just curious as I have a 30 gig ZIF drive out of an iPod that died ..

for a toshiba hdd, you can use the oem cable and sand it down, or you can buy a lif to zif cable here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=10488

for other hdd you either can use the oem cable as is, or you will need a flip cable that has a diffent order of contacts. do a search, there is some info on the cable types around here somewhere.
