So this whole Walmart -Costco thing is a myth. Was able to push my Walmart 751H to 1.448 stable. I love this netbook!

My Walmart one wouldn't run Prime95 stable at anything above 1325 or so. 1350 would run fairly well but still crash just browsing the web every couple of hours. 1375 - 1400 would crash in less than ten minutes doing ANYthing. 1450 wouldn't last a minute. I even swapped out the memory and it didn't help. Guess I just got a real dud.

Guess you got one of the ones that were the reason theyre underclocking all of them in the first place. Recommend swapping it for another one. This has nothing to do with the shop you baught it in,- its a classic yeild thing with cpu manufacturing.

I realize that, but someone else appears to have gotten one from Costco that wasn't underclocked at all, which was my point in starting the thread. He seems to be the only one so far, though, so maybe just a fluke.

Wow every single one of your replies have been about how bad the 751 is for you. How about post something constructive?

there is no Bios setting to overclock your 751 :( but you can use setFSB in windows. Just look at the forum thread here.

I played around by changing the FSB to 140, 136 and 133, the unit locked up all 3 tries. its back to the default 124mhz

I have been reading the boards trying to decide what to do at this point. So far I have had the following Aspire Ones: 8.9, returned due to small screen size, 10.1 returned due to faulty USB port, went back to Costco to replace the 10.1 and they only had the 11.6 with XP, 1GB, 160GB HD. I like the 11.6 but it is locking up and I barely get 2 hours out of the battery (even though it states I should be getting 4) so I am trying to decide if I even want to continue with the Acer.

I loved my 10.1 but Costco isn't carrying that in the store anymore and I can order a new 11.6 from Walmart with the 260GB HD and 2GB Ram for about $50 more than I paid for the 11.6 from Costco. I was so frustrated by the battery life that I ordered a 6-cell battery, which I have not received yet. My concern is that if I buy the one from Walmart I have 14 days to make sure everything is working okay (price $398.00 free shipping plus tax) or order online from Costco ($399.00 +14.00 shipping plust tax) and have 90 days to return. I am not sure that the upgrade to the Vista, 260GM and 2GB ram will make a difference or be another frustration.

Any advice would be extremely helpful. I am finding that in alot of the forums people don't specify exactly which system they have (XP or Vista).

    Thanks,

    Tracy :D

As an afterthought, I have been seeing some screen shots with the Vista software and I have to say they do look pretty good. I have Vista on my 17" laptop and really love it. Any help on how you are liking Vista on the Acer would be appreciated also. I may be mistaken and be seeing the screen shots for Win7 but seeing as I have not seen this OS I am not sure. I believe it shows a taskbar type display down the left hand side. Please help me understand what everyone prefers.

Hi babysvt, it sounds like you have been getting some bad AA1's from Costco. I have never bought anything from them but it seems to me that if I bought something from a company and it was bad a couple times then I would try a different source. I have never had a problem with what I personally have bought from Walmart.com which is not really the same as Walmart the store. For those reasons I would say try getting one from Walmart.com. Of course that is just my opinion.

babysvt, I bought mine from Costco and have had no problems with it. I am getting a good 3+ hours out of the battery. This is the first computer that I have purchased that wasn't a Dell .... so far so good . I bought this Acer because of the 11.6 screen. It is a perfect size for me as far as portability goes. From everything I have read XP is the best os to use with this model. I would stick with Costco since you have the 90 day turn around time to return it with no questions asked. May I ask what you are doing when it locks up? I have read about the 751 locking up from others on this forum so just wonder what they are doing on the netbook when it does this.

First of all I would like to say thank you to both of the responses.

When the machine has locked up I was playing a downloaded game and I had to hold down the power button to reboot and then the played for a little while longer and locked up again. Not sure if it is the game because all of my other downloaded games work just fine. However, when my Mom borrowed the computer to check her email this last weekend she said that it locked up and she had to hold down the power button and then it was fine after that. I am considering buying the 2GB, 250GB HD 751 from Costco and installing XP because it seems to be a more stable OS on these systems. Thanks again for all of the help.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

BTW, come to think about it I did have one freeze up while playing a downloaded game from BigFish. Sometimes (depending on the game maker) they can be a little flaky. I blamed my lock up on the game since I have played a few on my Dell XPS and 1721 and have had the same thing happen.

On mine the multiplier is always 6x, and I don't see any way to change it.

So it's only running at 798Mhz.

How can I change the multiplier?

They keyboard is the one part that I hate! It's too hard to type on it without looking at the keyboard, because you can't feel where your fingers are located, since it's all flat and it's hard to feel where one key starts and ends. ;)

Hello I am Tommy I have an Acer Aspire One 75h From August of 2009 that i bought at walmart. I have an intel atom z520 1.33GHZ processor and I could use SetFSB to overclock it to 1.48GHZ.

You need to use SetFsb Version 2.2.115.87 and use PLL ICS9LPRS365BGLF

Search it up on google then tell me how it goes...

Can anyone point me to the directions for installing setFSB? I'm not worried about bricking my Acer, but I do need very clear instructions about how/what setting to select to overclock my Acer.

The other question I have for anyone who has done this is "Does it improve video performance to the point where there is little or no frame loss"? If not, then I guess I won't bother with setfsb and my Acer works fine for surfing the net which is the main reason I have it. My Acer only gets used on "road" trips so it's not that big of deal for me, but still I would like to be able to do video without the annoying "frame skips".
