    Hi
I noticed there is a gmail notifier for Linux. Can anyone please tell me if it can be used on the linpus lite system and if so how to install it.
    Thanks

If you install Ubuntu there is no compilation required, a simple:

    $ sudo apt-get install checkgmail

    will do the trick.

Having said that, if you are a Linux newbie, installing Ubuntu may not be suitable until the small wrinkles have been fully ironed out.

    hi pattyadams
for installing mailwatch there's problem ( install a lot of develop libraries to compile)
but chechkgmail mail work fine and need few libraries (16 perl package)
then install checkgmail (free space is precious!!)

    go to Terminal/consol and type:
    sudo yum install checkgmail
    and after
sudo chechkgmail -update (you need update version for a little problem about 401 error)
try it (and learn to use linux!!!)

on my acer it work well

    Thanks for this but....
I'm doing something wrong. The gmail notifier programme has installed but when I try to install the update I get a box asking for username and password for gmail which I put in - but I keep getting an error message saying incorrect user name. I tried uninstalling the whole thing and trying again but I still get stuck at the same point! :? Is there any cache I need to empty to get rid of a stored username or anything

ok at this point you should press cancel and the prgram quit!!
    now you type:
    sudo chechkgmail -update

you need update for this problem

UPDATE: if you want reinstall delete the hide dir in your home: /home/user/.checkgmail/

Can I check: does the update command have a hyphen before update or not. If I don't put it in I still get the username error message and if I put it in I just get a retrying to connect to checkgmail and then connection error (connection reset by peer) and it goes through the cycle again until eventually I get update NOT performed.

I am currently trying to erase the home/usr/.checkgmail file but cannot find it!!!!

    I appreciate your patience!

Update: I've now found the file but can't delete it

I've managed to install checkgmail fine using yum. What I don't know how to do now is get it to start up automatically on boot.

    When I go to
    Code:
Settings | Session and Startup Settings

    I get an error saying
    Code:
Xfce Settings Manager Error - No such plugin "session"

I suppose I could try to dump it in /etc/rc.d somewhere, but that seems a bit dangerous for a n00b like me.

    Any suggestions?

    I also tried
    ln -s /usr/bin/checkgmail .config/autostart
but checkgmail still doesn't start on boot.

    Advice welcome!
