i have tried

-doom 3 low settings little lag but very playeable
-fear & persues mandate medium settings works very well (Crashes when put shaders to low just set at medium or max)
-command & conquer 3 Tiberium wars & kane's wrath low setting works fine (Crashes when you put shader option to low just set it at medium or max)
-age of empires 3 high settings works like a charm no lags
-rome total war medium to high settings works great no lags
-max payne 2 high settings works like a charm
-command & conquer generals high settings runs perfectly
-company of heroes low settings playable little lags
-battlefield vietnam low settings runs fine
-vietcong high settings works great
-far cry low settings lags but playable

i found out that some newer games may crash on the acer aspire one due to poor onboard videocard (intel gma 950) all netbooks are suffering from, if you want to play newer games like after 2005-2006 you must set shader quality to medium or maximum or the game will crash this happend with c&c3 and fear so just set the shader option to medium or maximum with low shader option some games will crash

Acer Aspire One a150 xp 1gb ram 120 gb hdd

resident evil worked fine a little laggy sometimes but very playable i also tried medieval 2 and it crashed but it was a demo tho so maybe the full version will work

 

After investigating this a bit further I found a couple of appllcations that allow XGA to be downscaled to 1024x600. One is called Astray Plus and was developed for the EEE.

However both apps will work with the One and should allow games to run in XGA full screen. Of the two Astray Plus has more flexibility but seems buggier (and I think the developer has got rid of his EEE so probably won't be doing much in the way of updates!). Frame speed isn't good with either of them however so they are probably only of use if you are running older games. I was however able to get Civ3 running reasonably well using Astray Plus

Civ4 will run full screen using either app but is painfully slow.

 

When I go to startup a game I get the following error

Initialization of Direct3D Device failed.
There is a problem with the Display Adapter or its properties.

What can I do to fix it?

24hrs later, well even less, i have fixed my own problem.

Sid Meirs Pirates - Works perfectly without any alterations nor preparations
Xcom Apoc (classic) - Works perfect except sounds are bad (and crashes occasionally not too often though), u need VDMsound and another mousesec or something to make the mouse work better.

At the moment working on Medieval 2 Total war. Someone told that it crashes at the start (I get something like "medieval 2 total war encountered unspecified error" and then it kicks me to desktop), any ideas how to fix this? I am trying now to update the game and install "Kingdoms" to see if that helps. Will report back. :geek:

I have 120gb version with 1gb ram.

 

All of these games have been played on the Acer Aspire One with 1 gig of ram, 160gb hd, windows XP.

GTA 3 - Runs great. Not perfect, has a blurry moments and occasional lag strikes. Still very playable. medium settings.

Half Life - Runs pretty perfect from what I saw. Played well...very nice.

Half Life Blue Shift - Same as HL1, pretty much

Opposing Force - works great, as hl1 and BS

Team Fortress Classic - for a multiplayer shooter, it works perfect on the one. highly reccomended.

Sven Co-Op - busted this out for some lan-mutliplayer aswell online multiplayer hl1 and it worked great, def playable, and fun!

Half Life 2 - Works Good. Overpowers the machine a little and gets it hot. With the right startup code intact, it can play at great speed...and playable. Not sure if I'd recocmend this. Just get HL1...no need to go the extra mile

Zombie Panic -Works fine...not a reccomended game though. Runs good, just very dead community. get ZP S.

 

Me too, I donwload Medieval 2 DEMO and I see the same error. My friends told me to update Directx version and graphics chipset driver, but I have the last ones and it's doesn't works. I'll open, crached and appear a message like: " Medieval Total War: Encounter an unespecified error and will now exit"

Any explication o solution??

My Unreal Tournament 2004 Run fine. It may stutter everyonce in a while when like 10 bots and I are all shooting at eachother in the same area but other then that it's perfect. here is a quick clip of me playing it...

Just a few. These games all run better on windows7, but I had constant hardware bsod on windows 7. Put xp pro vanilla on it and its back to working 100%


I just wish Team fortress 2 would work.
