I've got the 8gb SSD model with Linpus Linux.

I'd prefer my system to use 12 hour time - i.e. 1:00pm - instead, it insists on displaying
24 hour international or military time on the clock in the panel - i.e. 13:00. It's
    driving me nuts.

Is this happening to everyone or just me?

Any idea how to change it? Doesn't seem to be an option in the Date and Time settings.
Also see no related option in the XFCE- right-click menu I've turned on.

Further, is there any easy way to remove panel icons? I'd like to get rid of the "EN"
because I'm never going to change languages. I've gotten rid of the flashing Mail
icon by uninstalling Acer Mail completely. But in general I'd like to be able to customize
the panel icons and I'm stumped.

    Thanks!

This is one of the customizations Linpus made to XFCE, you can't edit the panel, I tried installing the regular Fedora package for the XFCE panel to get back this functionality and that panel seemed stuck to being ~100 pixels tall even though it was only using a fraction of that.

So, to change the clock you'll have to edit its config file yourself. Just open /home/user/.config/xfce4/panel/clock-1.rc, change "military=true" to "military=false". Now you can restart the panel by typing "killall xfce4-panel" in a terminal or the run dialog, then restart it by typing xfce4-panel in the run dialog.

How exactly do you do this? I'm kind of a newb and I tried just typing in /home/user/.config/xfce4/panel/clock-1.rc and that got me no where, then I tried sudo /home/user/.config/xfce4/panel/clock-1.rc, which didn't work and then I tried gedit /home/user/.config/xfce4/panel/clock-1.rc which also didn't work.

    Also...

Is there a way to display the date down there? That would be very handy. Or at least have a calendar come up when I click the time.

    Thanks for any help

    Type:
    Code:
    Sudo thunar
Then use the address bar in that to type out the location. I did that and it worked. Just note that I had to restart the system to get the panel to comeback. I could restart it with xfce4-panel command but it would close if I shutdown the terminal. Rebooted and it's fine.

    Just BTW restart cmd is:
    Code:
    shutdown -r now

To remove the keyboard layout indicator:

    Open the file panels.xml in
    .config/xfce4/panel/

    and delete the line

    Code:
    <item name="xkb-plugin" id="1"/>
Then kill and restart the panel with the following commands (from the Alt-F2 Run dialog):
    Code:
    killall xfce4-panel
    then
    Code:
    xfce4-panel

An easier way is to install the official Acer patch for date and time ;)
Of course, most of the updates sofar .. well.. sucked - so perhaps it is best to avoid them like the plague.

It already does this (on my standard AA1 with all updates up to today).

Hover with the mouse pointer over the time. You should see a tool tip with the date.

Left-click on the time - a calendar should appear.
Left-click the time again to make the calendar disappear.
