As per subject - is this everyone else's experience of GE on the A150 Linpus?

Just a bump - I can't believe no-one else has installed it and either disagrees or agrees with me that it runs like a dog (under Linpus)

If its just me, I'll have to see what I can do to improve the performance.

    Thanks!

I can't speak to Google Earth on Linpus, but I can say that it is slow on Ubuntu 9.04.

I attribute this to the fact that it's a single core 1.6 processor with a scant 1GiB of RAM.

Slow is what I remembered. But if you search the archives there are two tips:
    use older (4.2) version
switch off atmosphere (under menu view).

For me: works great (Suse 11.1) :D

Edit: June 14. Looking at Prague while on vacation there. Works great even over hotel connection.
Edit 2: June 18. Ditched Suse and went Fedora 11. Installed version 5 & switched off atmosphere and water. Not as smooth as 4.2 on Suse but acceptable.

Newer versions on Zenwalk are also unbearable.
You have to use GoogleEarth 4.2, which is still available through any of the current-old repositories for Zenwalk.
Just in case anyone is interested.

Google Earth needs a lot of horsepower to run properly. I'm surprised it runs at all.

Fired it up again last night just to see if it was OK now.

    I think I'm running 4.3 from memory.

Turned off atmosphere in the view menu (and ocean textures too I think). I also put a tick in the "safe mode for graphics" box. Now it runs just fine. Start up is very slow (almost 1 minute before it becomes useable) but scrolling / zooming / menu access now works at perfectly acceptable speeds.

I'll post back tonight after investigating which particular one of my selections has the most beneficial effect.

    Thanks for the tips!
