    Has anyone with a googlemail.com user name (rather than gmail.com) managed to get the messenger program to work.
    It seems to have been written only to accept gmail.com accounts so mine won't work. Any ideas how to get around this?
    Thank

    It may just be a problem with the messenger program installed. There should be instructions for installing Pidgin on these forums, that might work better. The default messenger app is pretty limited, configuration-wise.

    How to login with a @googlemail.com account:

    1. Create an account in the messenger with @gmail.com. It will not let you login. Quit the messenger.
    2. Open up a terminal (Alt-F2 -> terminal): mousepad .purple/accounts.xml
    3. Find the line where it says "<name>[email protected]</name>
    4. Change it to "<name>[email protected]</name>
    5. Save and exit and start the messenger.

    thanks, it worked a treat.

    nixtoo, it didn't work for me either at first. I created an account, then closed the messenger down. Then I needed to right click the messenger icon on the bottom right corner of the status bar (not sure what its called, only got my AA1 yesterday) and chose quit.

    If the messenger is running in the background it won't recognise the file alterations.

    Now follow the instructions above.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear nixtoo,

    Current version Messenger only allows you to input [email protected] as GTalk account.
    According your message, the restriction should be removed in next live update.
    The method szegey posted can help you to add your account in current Messenger. (Messenger must be closed.)
    Sorry for your inconvenience.
