I have not purchased a new laptop in more than 6 years. I don't know what is good anymore or what to look for. Seems there are no optical drives anymore and even Ethernet ports are not on all laptops.

For Windows 11, what is the minimum amount of memory needed for it to run smoothly? I have 8 GB on two different Windows 10 laptops, and that seemed fine, but from what I have read, it sounds like that may not be enough for Windows 11.

For a elderly parent, I am looking for something basic. They mainly do online emails and some documents in Microsoft Word. I picked up this from Best Buy the other day: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/lapt...deapad-flex-5i-gen-7-14-inch-intel/82r700l4us . What are people's thoughts on that vs this other one from Costco: https://www.costco.com/hp-14"-lapto...920x1080---windows-11.product.4000253148.html ?

For myself, I am also looking for something pretty basic. Any games I play are many years old. I have a 15.6" laptop currently and was thinking about getting a 14", but I realized I really like having a numpad on the right side, so maybe I should stick with a 15.6" laptop. My current one is a little over 5 lbs, and new ones seem to be about 4 lbs, which is definitely better. I have a 1 TB SSD in my current laptop, which I installed about 4 years ago, and have noticed most low end laptops only have 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. Is that enough?

    Thanks for the help.
