done. this is what it shows.[/quote:6v8jbqhj]

Try removing the bezel. So there can not be anything applying pressure to the TS. How did you mount the TS to he LCD panel? What is the thickness between the two?

If you look at the screen from the side with a bright object reflected in the screen, does the screen appear flat or distorted? Could the TS panel be distorted by the mounting tape?

You'll have to forgive my impatience; I havn't read through the entire 19 pages of this Thread ;)

Is the first post in this Thread still the best way of going about this touchscreen mod?

    :edit:

Ok, i've had time to skim a load more of this Thread...

Can someone confirm this is the correct panel?

Or are the panels offered by the other retailers mentioned in this Thread (FidoHub & DealExtreme) better in anyway?

    Cheers,

Right now my bezel is removed. No pressure. The screen is flat. After calibrating it seems to be working correctly, but every time i close and open the screen (or just change the angle) the pointer moves ~1 cm to the right..

i also tried to insert flat cable into the zif connector upside down... the same.. screen is going crazy.

oh, i forgot to tell, my touch cover screen got out of the tape and slided down before. so i stuck it on double layer of double tape. but problem is not in that! it loses calibration by itself! problem after problem.. when will it finish...

yes this panel is ok. this is yours: http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eg/4w.htm

    mine is different: http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eg/saturn.htm

one advice from me: if you are newbie in soldering better kill one of the usb ports (do not solder to pci-e) as u can short your motherboard out.

by the way ive found LED on my panel ))) a small green led turns on when i touch the screen

An unused nine pin USB pad on the motherboard next to the CPU. But only one side is functional, (one set of pads).

I guess the concern of constant power draw stated in the first post.

That and it's not well known.

This Iron seems to be suitable & not too expensive; and with the added bonus that it already comes with a 0.5mm tip.

Though I know next to nothing about soldering irons, so a nod from someone else would be appreciated.

    p.s.

I know, absolute modding newbie attempting this mod .... disaster is inevitable

Just found the solderless Thread, and now i'm realy confused...

Is this guide out of date?
Is the solderless option a better solution? (apparently it hijacks the webcam connection by inserting a usb hub)

I went with the "solder kit" after reading both threads. I thought that the solderless kit was giving people more problems, and I was concerned about the webcom port not supplying enough power for devices on a hub. Some people had reported that certain devices don't work on the solderless kit usb hub.

All in all, the "solder kit" gave me a lot of gray hair, with all the problems I created. But it is working great at the moment.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification, the solder solution definitely seems like a more robust result.

Presumably the controller that is included in the solderless kit is a touchscreen controller + usb hub all on the same circuit board?
If that's the case, I guess it would be possible to get the best of both worlds by soldering this controller onto the usb pins of the mini pci-e port?
Though I guess space maybe a little too tight at that end of the case (especially with the HDD versions).

I'm curious regarding the power drain reported by some people when utilising the standard usb ports.

Is this an accurate account of the behaviour?

    1) standard usb 1, 2 & 3 - drains when off
    2) pci-e usb - does not drain
    3) unused CN11 usb - drains when off?
    4) web cam usb - does not drain?

Does this mean that leaving a usb mouse (for instance) plugged in will continue to drain the battery even when powered off?
I guess this odd behaviour is part of the usb specification, to allow for usb triggered power-up? (from keyboards, wake-on-lan network adapters etc)

as far as i understood (and actually have done) - the power doesnt drain if u connect power wire from ts controller to 5v+. i did so and grounded as said in guide, but connected D+ and D- to right hand usb port. it doesnt drain.

2 teh_qube, ok, i will post pics then

i can confirm that after 18 hours of being shut down with no power cord the AAO was at 99% battery life. CN11 does not drain power.
